Those were the Pro models, not this base one and the 13" models basically got a £100 price hike for not much in return, making this deal even better value.

Nice to find Mac haters finding any possible way to post in here - even if it's just to have a go at the OP rather than the product.

Good price for a great bit of kit. Voted hot!

lol and crash everytime you try and have three windows open at the same time. Mac claimed supremacy over Windows rightfully a long time ago now. Mac haters are living in denial.

macbooks are in a league of their own.

comparing a macbook to a windows laptop is like comparing a bmw to a honda civic ( i like them by the way) but their is a big difference.

The build quality, speed of o/s, looks, battery life, simplicity, you can't beat it. By the way i have always used windows laptops until recently. Once you go mac you don't go back!

I have used PC's all my life but I have owned a few macs also. The specs may not be as much as PC Laptops, but Mac doesnt use half of the system resources that windows does. And it will be as snappy in 1 year as it was when new.

Plus I like the fact that things like iMovie and iWeb come free with Macs

As an earlier post says, they are better, better speakers, better battery, superior screen . . . .

It's funny how all Mac owners have to force OSX upon everyone else. I quite like OSX, but it's not for everyone. The number of games for example are quite limited on OSX (hopefully steam will change this).

Windows 7 is quite a lovely O/S and it doesn't crash "everytime you try and have three windows open at the same time", saying that, neither did XP before it.

novatech.co.uk/nov…tml

£320 without an OS, download linux distro of choice. enjoy a lovely unix based OS (just like mac osx) and a computer with equal power for less than half the price

novatech customer services have never let me down and have always been happy to go out of their way to help. it would come with a warranty etc. this is without even looking around, just an email i opened about 30 min ago

A Windows user's clearly objective opinion of Macs -- "They are more expensive than PCs of the same 'spec' and have less software available" -- You may dissagree on the minutae but it is a reasonable arguement.

A Mac user's clearly subjective opinion of Windows -- "lol Windows crashes all the time blah blah, more than three windows open blah blah, really slow blah blah, hard to use blah blah" -- COMPLETE AND UTTER ********.

And THAT is why I hate Mac users. Not Macs, just the ****ing users.

For the record I don't think there's much between Windows 7 and Mac OSX its just what you're used to. But they ARE more expensive and there IS less software.

PC hardware was made generic for a reaon. Price.

Mac Hardware is just generic pc hardware with a custom BIOS to lock you into their software.

You can do everything with Cheap hardware that you can with a mac. Except for half the price.
Try this instead: art-studios.net/goo…/86

Good deal.

One serious question though, why do people love Macs?

Windows crashes because it can do everything - word processing, media, gaming etc

What can a Mac do? Word Processing, Internet, Word.. oh wait a minute.

It can't hardly do anything, and people wonder why it never crashes and its compaitable with everything?

What I can't see the point of is why people shell out £800 on a MAC laptop that can only do several things, whereas the equivilent computer can do much more and offer more value for money.

With Windows 7crashes are less often too.

I think too many people jump on the bandwagon of buying a Mac for the sake of it. Granted they do look awesome, but of course they will be built solid for £800 - the hardware specs don't match what you can buy in a PC so the extra money goes on making it look good.

My point is, of course a lower spec Mac will run better. Why? Well it only does several things. You format a PC with any system and just install word and firefox - it'll be lightning fast... and thats exactly what Macs are. The only reason people don't install more on there is because well, there isn't anything more to add.

Not a fanboy of any sort, I've considered a Mac... but to me its jumping on the bandwagon to say I've got a Mac.... I'd rather use my £800 to spend on someting that can offer more value for money.

IMHO..

given the latest new refreshes to the 15 and 17" MacBook Pros and not to the 13", there is now a very big gap opening up between the two ranges, mostly due to the 15 and 17 having the new core i5/i7 processors and the new graphics card switching.

I suspect that perhaps Apple is holding back on refreshing the 13" MacBooks for the time being as the new Core processors are in short supply and of course the 15 and 17 macbook models are higher margin.

I won't be surprised if there was a refresh of the 13" macbooks in about July or August, when supply is better, and just before the crucial back to school buying season.

Very Good price, this appears to be the current model as only the Pro models were updated yesterday.

And to all those who keep moaning about Macs on Mac posts - give it a rest!
No one is asking you to buy a Mac, I respect your decision not to.
Can we just have anti-Mac posts removed by default?

I occasionally use PCs but always buy Macs with my own money - that has always been my preference.
I have run my own business using Macs and they have been reliable for me, and offered me a better return on resale at end of life, furthermore there support costs have been considerably lower than Windows equivalents.
But most of all above all the arguments about design, cost and 'trendiness' - I find them a joy to use and as I spend a lot of time on the computer this is very important to me.

PC or Mac? Try them out and see which you prefer - and whichever you choose please don't bore the rest of us with your views of the other!

Quite clearly you don't own a BMW, build quality...The Japanese are making far better quality car now than the Germans which is a shame as I have owned 4 BMW's (E32 & E38) but I wouldn't buy one now as they simple are not as good as they were 10 years ago.

Oh and good deal on the Macbook!

Speaking of the 13" Macbook Pro.... £999 for the base model!! I love Macs, the build quality, the design, the OS, but £999 for a Core2Duo!!!!! Really Steve.... Really.....

Ignore the fact that this is a mac. If it was £500 it would be hot, as it is, its cold.
In the old days when the PC was a bag of bits slapped together at a high price, you could justify Apples' pricing policies. Nowadays Apple lags behind manufacturers such as Asus (suppose thats what happens when Foxconn - a budget PC brand, makes your components) the spec doesn't get refreshed half as quick as it should. Apple targets people with more money than sense, the 'look at me, I must be rich, me' brigade.

I actually like the comparison. You can get a 2 litre diesel in a civic, and astra, a bmw, benz, whatever. Maybe same performance, maybe not. And build quality on a lot of german cars has gone down, but they are still known for it.

Back to the mac... I have one, I like it. There are alternatives in the PC world, but for most of the stuff I do, I don't need it. I agree for gaming PC probably better way to go, but I also have an xbox and prefer that over computer games. I like mac's worldwide warranty. I like the aluminum case, it does feel and look good.

No doubt they are expensive, but I bought mine in the US and it's way cheaper to do it that way.

I think if you found an M3 for 10% less than the normal price, you would consider that a good deal. But would benz or honda buyer says its a waste of money, not worth it? Maybe, not much is ever going to change there.

or you could just use this link and buy direct from Apple for £701...

Steve Jobs has already explained why the 13" stayed with C2D - Intel refused to allow anything but its own integrated video card with the i3 cpu. There is no room on the current 13" logic board to accommodate the i3/i5/i7 and a discrete graphics chip, so Apple had no choice but to stick with the fastest C2D it could stick in the notebook and chose to beef up the nVidia integrated video card instead. Overall, since OSX offloads a lot of its processing to the gpu, the gains would be better with this solution than the i3 plus Intel video option. If Apple finds a way to redesign the logic board, then the 13" Macbook Pro will get Arrandale plus a discrete graphics card. Unless Intel gives way, that is the only way you will see the i3 chip in the smallest notebook anytime soon.

This is what i was thinking! I have been waiting for this update for absolutely ages. I'm in my last year of uni so I was hoping to use my discount on the new macbook pros but since i am not made of money i could only afford the 13" and that has not changed much at all. Seriously guys do you think it's worth spending the extra £500 (thats a lot of money considering my budget was £1000) for a more future proof machine. Is there any point of getting the 13" 2.4Ghz macbook pro? Some real advice from the tech heads is greatly welcomed. thanks
