Good deal for those that don't want to or can't wait for the impending i3,i5,i7 updates

What is it with Apple and batteries that can't be changed by a user ? Is the following taken from a (5 star) review of said laptop from Amazon.co.uk really correct ?
"Battery - This was by far the biggest disappointment out of the whole system. Firstly, it is non-user-replaceable meaning I can't carry a spare with me and pop it in - well I could if I carried around a screwdriver and unscrewed ten screws and violated my warranty"

Apple are expected to update their Macbook Pro lines any day now so you may want to hold you breath (and money) for future investment.

I spotted this the other day and mentioned in one of the other MacBook threads. Its cheap, but this is only because this model is due to replaced any day now. Also anyone with student-status can buy for even less through the apple education store and get a free 3y warranty in the process.

The whole reason they got such good battery life is because they didn't have to fit it into a removabe frame which would have taken up the battery space and thus reduced the battery capacity. By sealing it in, they can maximise its size. And the whole point of making them big batteries is so you don't have to carry around that spare! Check out the open build pics and you'll see what I mean. There isn't some dramatic change in technology (albeit there is some), sheer size is everything here.

My housemate has the Macbook Air and the battery life is absolutely astonishing. I've charged my 4 yr old MBP 3 times over before that runs out of juice. He will use it for a few days or so cruising for a few hours on the internet and doing some photo editing before it decides it wants a top up.

Like I said above.

Its been 'this tuesday' for weeks now. Could be next week, could be as late as June. (Though that would be 1year between updates which has never happened before). Though I sold mine just this week, just incase.

Apple doesn't hide this fact. It's a compromise that I personally like as I can get the right amount of use from the laptop without having to carry a spare battery.

But you do raise a good point - don't buy things that don't suit your needs. Goes for a lot of things.

No, they are literally due any day now. Won't be as long as June.

Wow, 43-pages of discussion about a single laptop in less than 24 hours!

The 13" MBP is without a doubt the best laptop I've ever owned. I'd recommend them to anyone on the market, great piece of kit. Voted Hot!

I can vouch for that. Its THE best system i've ever used. The whole experience is just fab. From customer service (the odd time you need them) to the build quality to the OS.

Considering that the HE price is not that much less (£789.60), this is a really good discount if you need one right now.

Completely forgot I'm entitled to it...

They wont update the MBP until both versions of the iPad are released, same as next iPhone. They'll been a wait after that too so they all have their own space on the calendar.

alwayss been at this price

It's now showing as £799.99 plus £6 shipping from a third party seller called "ifozi". Only 1 left too.

Nah, MBP will most likely be updated very soon. It won't be a big announcement, just a press-release and the new models appearing on the store.

I've never used an apple before. Can you view pdf files, use the vlc player to view films, have a rapidshare account etc. I've always wanted one but worried it might not have the usability of a pc. I had ipod and determined that all it's proprietary workings made it a bit rubbish, is it the same with the labtops?

Yes you can view PDF files and use VLC to play films; they have this in Mac version. With regards to RapidShare, I believe this is browser-based? So yes Mac can run this just fine. I do my Internet Banking on my Mac with no issues. The only issue I had was printing postage from Royal Mail's Online Postage service. But even this has been rectified by Royal Mail recently.

What's rubbish about an iPod? It's used for playing music, is it not? It's been designed to do so and quite well I believe.

Ipods are ok. Not the best sound quality you'll get in an mp3 player, but easy to use. Its that vile abortion of a program called itunes that any sane person despises. It rivals windows millenium as the most useless piece of software ever created imo. Saying that, version 9 is starting to look a bit better. By version 20 it should be brilliant!

I'm always baffled by these iTunes-haters. What, exactly, is so bad about iTunes? Calling it vile and despised may be entertaining, but its not very informative.

So I'm not the only one:-D

It plays music, I can skip forwards and back by pressing a key, I can update artwork, I can see what albums are out in the States and when they'll be out here, I can watch movie trailers, I can download podcasts, I can download films and tv shows, I can sync multiple iPods and iPhones easily, I can embarrass myself by noticing that I've played Fascination by Alphabeat more than any Beatles song in the last 6 months.....

what exactly am I missing that is so bad about it?:?

Agreed. In my experience iTunes can be a real system hog on any Windows computer (including my W7 machine), however on the Mac, it is quite an excellent program. It's never crashed on me or caused slowdowns. Personally I do think Apple should get the finger out and recode their iTunes for Windows because it can be pretty rubbish.

To the previous poster who seems on the fence about switching, I was in the same boat 15 months ago. Once up and running you quickly realize that a lot of programs that run on Windows do in fact, have a Mac version. For those that do not, there are many excellent alternatives. Don't forget, there is also the option of bootcamp so you can have the best of both worlds.

I picked up the 13-inch: 2.53GHz model in September last year. Student discount was 20% and you get 3 years applecare for a higly reduced price, but it wasns't free. I paid £1030 for both together.

Applecare, so I was todl covers any damage caused by replacing RAM or battery so avoids the worry of botching a warranty by replacing the battery down the line.

...it's also the best, and easiest, system I've ever used!

I would never buy one of these tbh, but seems like a good deal for these overpriced white machines!

Point to where I said Applecare is free?

I said 3-year warranty is free, which is different to applecare. The warranty includes only hardware, applecare adds telephone support.

From the store T&C:

10.1.1 All Apple-branded desktop and portable computer products sold after October 1st 2005 within the framework of the HE National Agreement shall be subject to a 36 calendar month warranty period (the “HE National Agreement Warranty”) commencing from the date of delivery.

Non-HE purchases get a 1y hardware warranty, which can be topped up via applecare to 3y hardware + telephone.

Wow, you didnt even take the time to look at the picture

Does anyone think there will be any design changes to the MBP range? Or will it just mostly be the processor and other hardware upgrades?

Really love the current design so I hope they don't change it too much!

Have gone for this as I can reclaim the VAT which brings it down to £698. Cheers OP - anyone know of any deals on MBP extended warranties floating about?

Coming from someone who doesn't know what colour a MBP is, that's the typical ill informed comment.

If you have tried a Mac and don't like it, don't buy one, if you can't afford one... don't buy one if you don't need one... don't buy one.

It's a good price for the kit, hence why it has been posted on here.

To people who vote apple products cold...Would you vote a deal on tampons cold because you cant use them?!?
