http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/02/x-locale/common/customer-reviews/stars-5-0.gifOne of the best (and most underrated) Westerns ever made!

A unique and engaging Western movie, with elements of 'Treasure Island' and the Indiana Jones films.

Gregory Peck is Mackenna, a lawman entrusted with a map which leads to hidden gold. He is forced to guide a group of misfits, bandits, and greedy prospectors to the treasure, whilst being pursued by Apaches. This group of characters includes the charismatic Omar Sharif, Telly Savalas, Lee J Cobb, Burgess Meredith, Eli Wallach, and Edward G Robinson in a memorable cameo. This all star cast ensures that every character plays a significant part and the way the group dynamic shifts and changes is one of the great highlights of the narrative. To say more would be to give away the twists and turns of the plot, but suffice to say the story moves along at a breakneck pace and leads to a stunning conclusion.

The film is a visual feast throughout, with wonderful scenery and some unusual photography. Complementing this is a great theme song (by Jose Feliciano), with lyrics that sum up the characters and their lust for gold.

This is a highly underrated film which breaks Western movie convention, and really should receive more recognition.

Luvely, is this available as part of a trilogy or boxset? Gr8 price.
