This wont be very bright as its an old style bulb and not LED but i have a shed load of D size batteries and the only thing that uses them bar this is my ghetto blaster form 1985
I'm not surprised Halfords are selling these off so cheap. Trend is for smaller and LED torches. Maglite isn't the main player was like it was back into day with the likes of LED Lenser.

I don't think these are worth buying.

Is it rechargeable or battery operated
Battery but you can get rechargeable 'D' cell batteries - managed to reserve 3 in Crewe branch
Gosh I've had one of these in a cupboard since I bought it the last time Halfords had it at £5...3 years ago:)
It's saying Sorry - collection not unavailable

I can't order damn help me someone
Great torches in their day. Still got a 4D cell I bought over 20 years ago still works. They just don't offer the brightness or battery life the new cree Led torches do. I upgraded to a first gen led bulb for mine but is pretty pathetic on brightness

The 2D model name means it takes 2 D batteries. You can get rechargable D batteries but you'll need a suitably large charger.

I suspect this is a legitimate clearance price for the old incandescent model.

Absolutely...they kick out around 27 lumens...while the LED mini that Halfords have for £5 kicks out 87 lumens...ordered one of those which I would not have known about without this original post so thanks OP
As an afterthought they are a really good weight so for keeping in the car for all eventualities...make of that what you will

Great for lumping burglars.
Great deal, going to get myself one of these!
Upgrade the bulb to an LED giving 260 lumens or so for around £12 gives you a very capable torch with excellent build quality and great for keeping in the glove box.
Brilliant - thanks op. 2d and 2aa led ordered.
In case anyone is interested the mini pro LED is 272 lumens and priced £10
shame it isn't the 6D version.

It also states 'spare lamp safely secured in tailcap' which infers it's the old type as the LED version doesn't come with a spare.
I just rang Halfords to make sure the 2 I ordered was in stock and to confirm that they was Indeed LED and YES they are the LED type.
Great find. Hot.

You're assuming Halfords staff know what they're talking about. The packaging, and the "27 lumens" description says it's definitely not LED. Only the 3/4 view is an LED model. Extremely unlikely that they'd be selling off LED ones at this price. They do make a nice basis for modding if you're into that sort of thing. As a torch, they're almost useless, except that if you get out of your car carrying a baseball bat it's quite clear what you're expecting to use it for, whereas if you get out of your car carrying a torch you've got a reasonable excuse (works better if it's dark, mind).
I just got a call saying they didn't have these in stock but will give me a aa mini led mag light for a fiver, can't complain about that the smaller size suits me better and much brighter!
my 4 are xenon non led
Mega hot, do love a mag lite, people on here usually bitch about there being much more powerful Chinese tat torches available but this is a design classic
