Not Silver but £4.59 at Screwfix, if you are lucky enough to have a store local to collect from !

Maglights are very poor. LED torches are the future for this type of use.

Maglights are always my choice & they are guaranteed for life .

Sorry but these are the smallest ones, very tiny and I got mine for £4.50, only good for an emergency back up for reading signs in dark etc, your much better off getting the next size up which I paid £7.50 for.

LOL....

Rep.

They are currently doing an LED conversion for the maglite (£9). Might as well wait until the LED version is available

voted cold as amazon do these for £4.59 each, link in PJR's post, many thanks PJR, ordered 1 and spent just over 42p in order to get the free delivery.

djb773, im confused?? i thought these use LED's?

These are terrible!
I've had this one and the 2xaa one, the bulbs go black/stop working quite often and cost something stupid like £3-5 for a pair, terrible amount of light compared to an LED light.
Torches from DX/chinese retailers are a bit hit and miss, and not made to the same quality as maglites, but you can't even compare ]this to a 2xaa maglite in terms of light output.

LED maglites are supposed to be pretty good and give decent battery life.

Even ]these are brighter than the 1xaaa maglites.

They use tiny bulbs, only certain maglites have LEDs as standard: maglite.com/pro…asp

which are the good torches then, dont want a huge torch, 4-8 inches long would be good, must be very bright, led and good battery life.

if you want a well constructed and reliable torch buy this.

if you want something that shines light, dont.

On left- Maglight (with I.Q. switch) with 2x new Duracell Plus AA batteries - Poor

On right- Ultrafire LED with 2x new Duracell Plus AA batteries - Excellent

Throw distance is farrrrr better too.

Also - I just realised that this is for the single AAA solitaire Maglite which is basically a waste of time.

what brand and model is the 1 on the right, what price and where's the cheapest place for it or a torch that gives similar performance to that?

Jetpac's dealxtreme link is £8 delivered, dont know if thats the same torch thats in the photo or if its worse or better.

EDIT: found 2 video reviews of the deal xtreme torch (£8 delivered):

uk.youtube.com/wat…OTY
uk.youtube.com/wat…rfg

were can you get if from for £8 ?

that dealextreme website: dealextreme.com/det…607

its $13 or so with free delivery, comes from hong kong, i've bought from them before, takes around 1-1.5 weeks usually. Works out at £8.00 delivered when paying via paypal, will order myself 1 now i think.

yer im going to do that aswell thanks

Bought two of these but had to take them back. I know its says 8cm but I didn't bother working out just what that meant in reality. They are tiny and just a bit pointless for any purpose I could see.

on the website they are about 10CM but looking at a ruler they are still very small

Same. Still a decent price anyways, so I ordered. :-D

Millets had them for £7.99 a while ago, not much light but they do fit in a pocket OK. Handy for seeing the camera, for making adjustments at night on time exposures on a tripod.

I am going to India in April on a business trip but I need to go to a village in vast countryside, which would be the best light and portable torch with the greatest intensity?

you will need a flame thrower playbay :P

infact that will probably attract moths :P

get the 1 from dealextreme that i linked on page2.

Just bought 2 for 9.79 from Argos, had to get customer services to correct the price first though

you really wont regret it, as i said i own 2. they only take 1AA battery and the throw and intensity is absolutely amazing for such a small light. all metal case, has a really nice feel and weight to it.

The one in the photo is a Ultrafire which you can also get from Deal Extreme, however i prefer the Romisen look (cant personally compare the 2 in lumination, but i know they are similar and the Romisen is cheaper)

I've got one of these and no way would you be able to read a sign with it. Ok for map reading in the car and that's about it.
And by the way it's "you're" not "your" in this context!
