Looks like it but a decent one, not the usual 1.5ah.

Great price.

If it was more than one then I would be buying a few just for the batteries! Good deal but drill is lower end of Makita range although will be more than adequate for most DIY users. Shame it doesn't have a light which i find invaluable.
Bargain
one should buy a good drill I bought a Black & decker drill it struggles to do basic tasks..

Black and decker sucks
People remember this is just a drill as well and only a drill really, and not that powerful drill.
I have this model as well and its super handy when you need to drill small holes/pilot holes in wood. But this won't be able to actually act as real hammer drill and drill large holes in concrete or even wood.
Also this wont be able to drive any decent sized screw, for that you need an Impact driver.
Remember the saying- jack of all trades, master of none-this is it!

Complete rubbish, whilst this may struggle with really heavy duty stuff, it will easily drill any type of hole in wood or drive a 'domestic screw'.
These are good drills. I used 2 of them to put a deck together. They screwed in very large heavy duty screws for fixing joists together and joists to posts (before bolting) and they had no trouble. Even drilling the 12mm bolt holes through the wood was like a knife through butter.

What a load of rubbish, this is a drill with hammer function. I have had this drill for over a year and drilled steel, concrete and wood. It has more then enough power for any of them. It has no problem driving any sort of screw. This was the only drill we had to set up Scare Fest at Alton Towers last year and it done it all with out issue. Sure an impact driver would have been quicker but to say this drill can not do it is madness. Sure its not an SDS drill but it don't pretend to be.

Tosh! I've just used mind to drill 4 12mm holes through a load bearing 2 brick thick wall. Did the job just fine.

If you want to carry an SDS drill and impact driver round the house to hang a picture that is up to you, but for most people a combi drill is "good enough" for most household jobs.
I almost purchased this last night but was swayed by the the Selco Dewalt posted on hukd earlier this week. Fair enough £40 more so not a like for like, but brushless motor, metal gear box, 2 x 2.0amh, a little more umph and interchangeable with other dewalt XR. A good deal on a Makita LXT nonetheless!

Edit : you have to be trade which has is a bit of a chew on.

Not a bad price for the drill, I've had one for a few years now, still going strong using it on site every day. Quite capable of drilling and screwing to a good standard, I've used mine drilling out for locks with a 20mm auger bit and also driving 4 inch screws into timber. Heat
I posted this deal last December and I got it for same price. Was 89.99 plus £5 cashback plus a £5 Wickes code so ended paying the same amount. I'm happy to report that I've used it many times and it works perfectly.

When you think they sell the 3.0AH battery for £89.99, see link, then this is an amazing price.
Heat added.
good deal, LION batteries lighter and hold their charge even when stored, so second battery not so critical.
I bought the brushless version and extra batteries off eBay (non branded) which work really well. Managed to smoke the drill a couple of times though
I was looking at the brushless 459 and I recall the fast charger and 3ah battery were close to this price on their own.

Tempted to grab this and upgrade to the 459 if needed. Atleast will have a spare drill for which I could look out for cheap battery.

The DHP453RFTK would be better as it comes with the drill, 3ah battery, fast charger, case and 101 accessory set. Click and collect only though.
IIRC, this drill has a standard 1yr warranty.

However, you can increase this to 3yrs by registering your drill with Makita: makitauk.com/ser…tml

I particularly like the 3Ah as it charges so fast and yet still lasts ages in use.
Thanks OP, agw2872 and HappyShopper. Got the drill with 101 bits and extended warranty to 3yr!

Looked like staff had bagged a few in our local store.
Many thanks OP - superb deal.

Absolute nonscense, you do not need an impact driver at all.

I have a Bosch cordless which isn't as powerful as this and it easily drives in 100mm and 120mm screws with very little effort.

I'm carpenter by trade so I really do know what I'm talking about...sure if you are lucky, the screw isn't massive and you drill a pilot hole it will drive a 100mm screw easily! But the fun starts when you have to tighten the screw as well and it's little bit bigger than your standard drywall screw.

Whilst its fair to say an impact driver will be better at driving screws - this drill does a reasonable job. I am also in the trade.....we have loads of 453s (and 452s and 451s and 458s (we have a lot of Makita LXT kit!)) . The 453 is the cheapest of the LXT drills, but it acquits itself well and will be fine for DIY and light trade use....
just clicked on the Get Deal button, once directed to site the price changes to £99. WTF
