I agree but its a good price from Axminster. You can buy replica batteries from Ebay last 2 days and then re charge. Had them for 2 years no issues.
Won't be any good soon as stations are moving to dab+.. these site radios don't support dab+ hence why they are being sold cheap

The DMR109W IS a DAB+ radio, the older 104 is just DAB, and I've not found any updates for making that DAB+ so far..

No idea wher you get that from. Even my older DMR104 takes all the normal sizes including the star 18v batteries

I don't understand. Any LXT battery will work fine.

Not only have they moved to DAB+, they've cut the audio quality to fit in more stations. I can't stand the quality of radio X on DAB+ in my car so I won't be buying a DAB+ radio for the house. The absolute stations are still good enough. The BBC use about 190kbps but Radio X now use 40kbps!!!!!!
So after all this scaremongering... It takes lxt batteries and is dab+ compatible

Cheers op, ordered one

Nice conclusion!
I paid £150 for mine and love it. Absolute bargain at this price. Takes absolute dogs abuse and keeps going.

I am sure this is not dab+, I have this model and it's dab and as yet no firmware update to dab+

39206955-XJXfZ.jpgAs I thought this is not dab+ so won't pick up a lot of popular stations and soon most stations will be dab+ only
Sexy

According to the item posted here

"Model DMR109 is a Job site radio that is able to receive Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB/ DAB•DAB+),"

If it doesn't, then the sales blurb is wrong, but it also means that the DMR109 is only a rebadged DMR104 which I have. No other difference.

One way to check, see if you can receive the Union Jack station. That's DAB+

Other than that the DMR112 is definitely DAB+, so I'm baffled as to why Makita would make 2 DAB only items.

Yes agree dmr112 is dab+ but I do have the dmr109 which is not dab+ they may of made a variant of it with dab+ but I searched online for Makita job site with Dab+ and it came up with the dmr112. I wouldn't like people to think they are getting something that is going to not work in a years time

I have put the question out on a well known site to find out if anyone has this connected to dab+
Ooh I’m tempted

Think you're right, still good enough for me though.
Description says dab+

I believe the difference is that the 109 can use cxt batteries, but the 104 cannot.

I think you'll find that DAB will still work for some time yet. DAB+ is an improvement, not a replacement. There are still tens of thousands of AM/FM/SW radios about which is why broadcasters still transmit analogue. DAB radios that aren't upgradeable won't have to be thrown out just because DAB+ is on the scene.

.
The trend is that stations are moving to dab+, so there will be fewer and fewer available on dab sets that don't do dab+. I'm sure the BBC won't switch for ages but the commercial stations can squeeze more stations into the same space to defray the high costs of DAB

40 kbps is not as bad as it first sounds! DAB+ is encoded in aacPlus
A 48kbps DAB+ stream, roughly speaking, will sound similar to a 128kbps DAB signal.
DAB+ system is three times more efficient than DAB.
2.02% TCB. Great find OP
I contacted the manufacturer and they say the DMR109 is dab and analogue and NOT DAB+
Also worth knowing that these run off 18v Bosch batteries, for anyone that uses the Bosch cordless kit....
I have been doing this for the past 3-4 years with no problems at all

Agree but dab has already lost a lot of popular stations and more and more are going to dab+.. I don't think it will be long before majority of stations are dab+ .. I'm just trying to warn people that are looking to buy this deal and other dab radios that they are already limited to stations and unfortunately it's going to get worse

I know, hence why I'm annoyed about it. It's not DAB+, I have this model and have limited use as the popular stations I listen too are no longer available on it. No sign of firmware update to Dab+ .. so I've purchased a cheap dab+ and my Makita sits in the garage collecting dust. Just in case they do an update or an adaptor so it can receive dab+

It doesn't. 40kbps aac sounds awful. It's unbearable

It's unlikely to get a firmware update for it. It probably has a DAB hardware decoder chip rather than a general CPU which could be updated in software
It’s oos any
Hope this helps someone: I have spoken with Makita Technical. The DMR109W does not have DAB+ and a lot of stations already do not work on that model. Just telephoned Axminster to let them know the description on their web site is not correct and to cancel my order. They, very helpfully, did so.
Mine arrived today, going to keep it despite no dab+
