Makita HR2300 2 Mode SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill - 240V with FREE 17 Piece Drill and Chisel Set

Great little deal if you need a cheap SDS drill, and around £15 cheaper than others with a free drill set.

Use GOOG13 code to get it from 89.99 to 85.45.

I notice that it's only a 2 mode drill, so hammer drill and drill only, which is a bit odd considering they've given you some chisels in the set. If you need to chisel (a very useful function) then you'll need a different model, about £110 ish.

If you've only ever used percussion drills you'll wonder why you didn't get an SDS before, when it drills through brick so easily. Bits last aaages, unlike trying to drill through using normal masonary bits.

It's the button on the drill that makes it louder

You can smash nails in if you turn it around & use the handle.

Bits don't last ages.. Last week I went through 3 Dewalt masonary bits in 1 day. Although they are still by far and away the drill of choice for professional builders.

Probably quicker and more helpful to do a copy paste like this... ".a rotary drill with a hammering action" en.wikipedia.org/wik…ill

2 modes are only good for your average DIYer

A bit like hammer time, but for diy.

Chances are, if you don't know what a hammer drill is, then you don't need this drill!!!!

my only gripe is why are they giving away free chisels on a 2 mode drill? It lacks the 3rd mode hammer only.... rendering the freebies useless

Athough this is a good drill, for the average DIY one of the cheap SDS drills from B&Q would do. Sometimes offered around £30-00 to £40-00

Exactly. Buying an SDS drill that has no rotary stop is like buying a car that only turns left.

My only gripe would be why only 2 mode, the 2 most used functions on a SDS are rotary hammer and hammer only -
hammer only is missing on this drill.

Who wants a 2 mode SDS drill?

I have the cordless version of this drill (the bhr162) and also have the bigger 3-mode Makita SDS. This is much a much lighter drill, so is good for putting fixings in, but doesnt have as much impact energy (KJ) as the heavier drills - probably why it doesnt have rotary stop.

So, think this is a good drill if you do lots of fixings and want reduced fatigue, if you need an all-rounder and only use occasionally I would recommend a 3-mode SDS, which will be heavier.

What are you drilling into?

Not sure about these bits with this drill, they could be ultra cheapo, but I got three boxes of these bits free with my makita and I'm still using the same first pack, but then I'm mostly drilling 5-6mm diameter into red brick/stone for rewire/plumbing.

Anyway, I was comparing with normal percusion type masonry bits which don't seem to last long at all when I've used them.

Yes as a builder they are the drill of choice, as for 3 bits in 1 day, you were probably pressing too hard, extra force doesn't increase drilling speed just ruins the bits
