Decent mower for a great price, this price is in with the cheapo models. It's not self propelling but is very light and is a wiz to push around.

Collected mine from Store a few hours ago and my grass now looks great, a real low 25mm too.....

Just to add also, Axminster customer services are out of this world. I have bought a lot off them over the years and recently had an extractor pack in which they shipped a new one and collected the old 48 hours later no questions ask. I also bought a seperate wall mounted extractor which I felt wasn't powerful enough so after 3 months asked if there was any chance I could return it. They collected it by fed ex and gave me a FULL refund.....

If you want self propelled I was tempted by the one on Homebase for about £160 odd but with 15% off this weekend was under £140 but decided to get the better brand in the end

What motor make is it on these, is it Briggs?

Original Poster

Sure is, briggs and stratton

The powered version has the easy start B&S 6.5 HP unit and is a different beast. It is £299.99 delivered if anyone is interested. Think this models are discontinued, not sure though. Voted HOT. Good mower.

Decent enough price but for me (and my garden) it has to be self-propelled.

Bargain. Bought. I don't even have a lawn. Thanks again HUKD!

Self Propelled is good if you let your grass overgrow often, if you don't they arent much better than a standard unless your very very lazy. also more to go wrong with them in the long run, but a B&S engine is a must!

For under £200 without question this one.

If you want self propelled under £200 get the soverein one from homebase. Or Argos also have a qualcast one with a petrol strimmer also for £199.

I personally was looking for under the £150 bracket but felt this was worth the extra, as other have said for a bit more you can get this and for a little bit more again get that but you gotta stop somewhere. Honda are very good but can be in the £500 mark.

I wouldn't buy cheap petrol garden tools like ryobi, mcculock, mountfield or anything from B&Q or Argos unless you love sheer frustration, id stick to Honda, stihl, Viking or other decent commercial grade makes. if you cant afford to spend £300+ on a Honda mower for example id just get a decent electric mower

Honda mowers can be bought for a lot less than £500!!

£299 for push one

or go to a dealer and get £50 off

i bought a flymo petrol fot £99 about 10 years ago with a Tecumseh engine. Never had it serviced and it has never let me down. Agree you usually get what you pay for but aren't the engines for these made by a couple of manufacturers and so this takes this element out. Agree Honda have a good reputation but if you're buying at around the £100 mark then will it last 3x as long?

Its not self propelling so i would not buy it

Still got our honda petrol lawn mower, still starts 2nd pull after 35 years of abuse and little or no servicing

Would this be better than the qualcast petrol push along that homebase stock and is on offer this weekend?

I'm new to lawnmowers, What does self propelled mean?

Thanks OP, ordered my first petrol lawnmower. Exciting times

fazzx - this mower is pushed by human power. self- propelled mowers have driven wheels which takes a lot of the effort away if you have a big garden, longer grass or you may not be strong enough, and a few other reasons.

Fair enough, but aint a honda much more money? Mine was nearly £1k!

(sit back and admire the stripes).

Not available online now... :o(

No longer available, but ITS have them in stock for £199.99. I've never used them before, maybe useful to someone.

Funny story, i sold my makita cordless power drill in the local newspaper, only to receive the very same one as a present from my brother in law, minus the power pack.

I'm new to lawnmowers, What does self propelled mean?

The motor drives the rear wheels when you press a handle, so it makes it easier to push. you have to remember that petrol lawnmowers are a lot heavier than electric ones - an electric mower maybe 3-10kg whereas a petrol will be 30kg+ - my Honda is is one of the lightest petrol mowers at 34kg - after an hours mowing itll feel like 100kg

id go for self propelled every time, well worth the extra - my Honda cost me £300 6 years ago which was an amazing bargain - most places then were £499+ - Honda are still doing £50 cashback at selected dealers - ive seen some hinda izy's in some dealers for £350, so £300 for a Honda izy and itll p**s over this lawn mower

I might wrong but I think Ryobi own McCulloch which If true explains a lot

had 2 Ryobi strimmers - first RLT30CET lasted 18months and about 10 uses, next Ryobi head unit / green one wouldn't even start!

bought a stihl FS 70 C-E which has been brilliant and unlike the Ryobi it starts and cuts with ease

Agreed. Cheap is tat. The fun is akin to finding a bottle of wine that is outstanding for under a fiver(say). I use top qulity all the time £500 + power tools, now I enjoy hunting value tools that if they cease 2 work i bin em. Gives me somat 2 do tracking em down.

Honda mowers last average use of well over 10+ years and can be serviced, parts can be replaced - good luck sourcing parts for this mower

ill bet this mower is made under licence and not by makita
