If you can afford the extra £60 notes buy the Halfords 200 piece. The lifetime guarantee is worth the extra.

Cold votes or not, in the long run the Halfords set will be better value.

I have a couple of mannesman pieces - ratchet handles. When they break, they will be in the bin. With my Halfords stuff when (if) they break, they will be back to Halfords.

I've seen ppl talk about this before and said the guarantee does not cover the ratchet can u confirm if this is the case if so I wouldn't imagine the guarantee would be worth the extra cash as I'd b surprised if any of the sockets etc were to break

I thought they had changed this fairly recently
Great set for price! I've used their tools for years and never had any break.
This seems like all the tools you would every need (except for a jack, axle stands, torque wrench and breaker bar)

on most fairly modern cars (up to 10-15 years) you are only going to need a handful of metric sockets in common sizes.

the halfords warranty is good but has two things you need to bear in mind

- no use without the receipt...make sure and take a photocopy/picture of it before the thermal paper fades

- it doesnt cover ratchet parts (it would cover a split socket or a snapped breaker bar) BUT you might be lucky and get a sympathetic member of staff who sorts you out.

Who says halfords will still be going in ten years? Halfords belgium and netherlands went bust last year (i accept these are legally seperate companies). The warranty isnt a reflection of the quality of the goods its a sales gimmick where they assume only a handful of customers will bother coming back with broken parts.

The brutal truth is that if you have bought anything at all in halfords you are a mug. The only benefit halfords offers is immediacy if you need a part now, but they will happily charge you 2-4 times what eurocarparts will.

In fact i just bought a car vent mobile phone mount on amazon for 80p...and in one of the reviews someone was complaining of being ripped off because they bought exactly the same part in halfords for a tenner. They ordered the chinese part then couldnt be bothered waiting and bought a stop gap in halfords thinking the chinese one would be rubbish when it did come...when it arrives the two pieces were completely identical.

And EuroCarCrap will sell you inferior rubbish for that price. I had to return 3 cam chain kits as they were not properly machined. Cost me 4 hours wasted time and three 18 mile round trips to sort it out. Steer well clear of them, now.

Halfords have covered all components including ratchets for years.

Halfords may go bust, but it's not that likely.

If you're are going to "duh" you won't look quite so dumb if you are right.

You are wrong. Halfords changed policy on moving parts years ago. All components have liftime guarantee and the backdated the guarantee to cover items sold before the change.

no longer at this price

Wrong on both counts.you don't need a receipt and ratchets are covered.changed policy a few years back.Agree on prices but a fairly easy to get trade card reduces quite a lot of goods.
Mannesmann were made in Germany, dunno if they've changed to China like the Swedes (and Brits who ended up even losing their identity as well as sales) I know CK have many of their tools made in China now too. Still leaving most German makers making their stuff mainly in Germany, though.
Bought a couple of Mannesmann pliers a couple of years ago, and they ARE German made and as good as you'd expect. This socket set ? Prob Chinese at this excellent, HOT price, but you never know
