Very easy, screw in the sides and top with decent screws.

Will it fit any size hatch or does it have to be some industry standard hatch size.

My hatch was made by previous , owner, not so go at DIY! Its basically a wooden cover that you have to push up into the loft and put to the side, climb in. Then when you climb out, replace the cover. Pain in the backside (and very heavy)

There are two basic types, push-up and drop down. What you describe is push up.

The dimensions in title are a bit misleading as that's the external trim - I think.

Fitting W x L: 686 x 856mm. Opening W x L: 545 x 715mm. Cut-out W x L: 562 x 726mm.

Width is typical for common 600mm centres on joists. The length can be different. The ones with stairs on the hatch are typically 1.2m long.

I had the same issue, previous owner made the hatch and it was a pull down which collapsed last year, sizes are misleading and I had to make an internal bracket plus some chiselling for the hatch to screw into.
Very easy to install. I fitted the one in my house currently!

The only thing I would say about these is they do discolour. Put a couple into houses I Rent out.
discolour how much?

discolour how much?

mine been up 2 years, still white, but none smokers, easy to fit though a little extra work on the insulation makes it better, I used some foil bubble wrap over the std stuff, protects the styrene and insulates the sides better
together with this and all sorted

Mine was same size as yours, you just brace between the joists to suit and cut out the old one to open hatch up to the correct size, then it fits.

What do you mean by 'brace between the joists'? Thanks

You can't easily alter the width of the joists, you can easily extend the length by adding another piece of 4x2 to suit and cutting the old one out so the hatch fits.
Harder to explain than do.

Interested in this too - anyone have any ideas if this combination would work and is it a difficult DIY job? Thanks

Hello, my opening is 740mm x 740mm from the previous owner...I’m assuming this is just a matter of screwing a bit of timber into the opening to make it narrower for the correct 553mm opening? Would the 740mm be OK given it should be 726mm?

No problem, making up the 14mm so long as your ladder has enough room can't imagine it would be in the way, and a piece of 4 by 2 for the 187mm make up drilled and screwed or nailed. If you enter on say the left fit to the left for most strength and then fit 4 by 2 on the right side and visa versa for right entering.
Just fitted mine. The biggest job was getting the old hatch out as it was bonded in with mastic all the way around. It's only a 15 minute job to fit then. A few ratchet clamps are handy to hold it in place, centre it and drill pilot holes.

Nice big outer frame to hide any mess from the original. The sealing strip is quite close to the inside and even though I have 600mm centre joists I still have 10mm gap down the lengths either side, which means the seal isn't pulled to the ceiling on those sides. Might stuff some foam down the gap.

Prefer apple version, twice as much for sure... Half as good but cool logo in the hatch cover! Worth the extra obviously!

Good find OP. Thanks

No. The lockable variant is the GL251
Bugger, missed it. Anyone know anywhere else a similar price?
