And make sure it's made by Samsung and not Itchifanni Electronics in Hong Kong

Rooted and flashed mine, love it. Real geeky stuff, and impractical at times, but useful in others.

Looks awesome with live wallpapers running.

any benefits to rooting and flashing? updated to tizen and i am happy with mine

Not tried Tizen, so couldn't say. But compared to stock Android, yeah, keyboards, offline voice recognition, live wallpapers, no video record limit, widgets, more control over visuals, settings, etc. It basically opens it up a bit. Still a way to go, but it makes it look so much better. I run Nova Launcher, with a UCCW clock face and a cool live wallpaper.

In the end its still a watch, so it's not going to be a huge difference, but I'm glad I did.

thanks makes more sense now. reason i updated to tizen is that it has much better battery and i use mine everyday i get full 2 days out of it using it a lot and 3 days if i use it less i have all my email whats app messaging and other notifications use it as a hands free speakerphone too. i bought it for around £50 on ebay and was in very good condition most sellers on ebay sell good condition. i just wanted to see if wearable would fit into my life and if its worth the expense for the moto 360 and or any other smartwatch.

What is the battery life like?

Wrong not like apple

Amazing how the manufacturers have managed to get this crappy idea of a smartwatch off the ground. It doesn't make a lot of sense currently, we're just at the beginning with this tech, and battery life is utterly hopeless for all these devices.

Heat, but the whole charging a watch idea is a big turn off - pun intended, I used to hate changing the batteries even though they lasted months and months.

I'll stick with my Citizen. Although, yeah I paid nearly 220 for it. But it tells the time, date etc... and I don't need to charge it, also won't be outdated in a years time. iWatch is going to be about the same price at launch, although probably more.

What's the story with that, are people going to update every year or two when a new one comes out?

Not according to the Samsung website. Unless you have to root it to work on other devices.

Agreed. The "smartwatch" is a solution looking for a problem.

I need to charge my pebble every ~5 days, I don't think that's bad for that bit of technology. You've to remember it's just beggining of wearables so it will take some time to have full power... But agreed one day power on GG is just miserable.

I get 2 to 3 days out of my GG, plus you can't really compare GG to Pebble, the GG does a lot more with more features, so lower battery life is a given. But I don't wear mine to bed, so just charge it up overnight.

For me it's not a solution looking for a problem, it was the solution. I run it off my tablet, so no need to have a phone

Waiting for the Moto 360, LG Watch R or the HP SmartWatch myself. None of the current ones really appeal to me. This being one of the worst.

But there are a few out there that do slightly better battery life. There are a couple of Casio G-Shocks that have Bluetooth connectivity with appox 2 year battery life. Come close to picking one up a couple of times. If they release one that's also solar powered, I'd definitely be sold. Think the Cookoo v2 is supposed to run to 1 year plus as well but hasn't been that well reviewed.

I like the second version with a heart rate monitor but the results vary from accurate to very inaccurate.

had the lg g watch for a day then resold:L, it is something invented that did'nt need tooo, i think in 5 years they will be a cool gadget for us geeky people, but never an essential, for now there glitchy and dont work perfecty

its like google now even on phones, talking to it it not always accuracte on understanding and can be frustrating!, who actually uses google now, i use it to show off sometimes thats it:)

* mind spelling can't be asked to correct them

Is this any good if without a compatible Samsung phone?

I have put the latest NULL firmware, I have now installed Viber, VLC, youtube, BBC weather, N64 emulator, Google drive,Twitter all full apps, the android web browser, Google voice, all working. I have the mario wallpaper running. Its completly impractical but worth it for the lolz

Cold, can't be that good when the apple watch costs £299.

Why buy

Has anyone got this working well with a non-compatible phone? I've installed Null on mine and linked it to my Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 (really rare imported keyboard phone, so not much support, no chance of a kit Kat Rom, etc) and functionality is very limited. Can't control phone's media player. Can answer phone calls but it just shows the number, not the name. There must be some third-party apps that can help?
