google maps :-?

Well google maps can let you down if the mobile internet coverage is patchy I suppose, but still other phone apps are available with freely downloadable satnav maps. Agree that there is little need to pay for satnav in this day and age.

Fair play mate, but have you tried the OsmAnd app. You can download maps of pretty much anywhere and it works very well, I have used it in Ireland and Spain without issue. The user interface is not the most intuitive but once you get your destination programmed in, its really good.

i have, still return to a discrete satnav . phones and apps still a few years off being better.

I drive lots.

for occasional use there's a lot of free choice

Not sure I get this, some units have free map updates? Is that same as this?

Yes I have. I have it on all my devices. But I still default to tom tom on any important journey.

I thought it was a deal to get 50% off Benefit makeup lol

there's not really much to "get"; TomTom expect you to pay a very large amount of money for a year's worth of map updates. those same map updates are freely available if you buy a good satnav in the first place. alternatively use an app on your phone, like Google maps.

I bought a Garmin just under a decade ago with map updates as part of the package. TomTom expected you to buy maps on an annual subscription back then, and apparently they still do now. the equivalent TomTom satnav with updates would have cost me a small fortune to own over the same period.
