Yes, I posted it a few months ago, but today when it was routinely 'expired' again, I wasn't allowed to update or edit it this time - Hotukdeals' system stated I should re-post it to be seen.

When I posted an item which was only available at its normal price but for a limited time the mods moved it to Discussions. Lack of consistency or what?

Secrets from a Canadian: it's not the quantity, but the quality. Many watery maple syrup brands out there. You get what you pay for

What's the best maple syrup available in UK stores in your opinion?

I know, I know. Don't expect consistency...
Very good brand,Excellent price.
I'm from Canada and can vouch for the authenticity of this tasty syrup. Aldi has some as well for about the same cost as their regular price.

Hi, I quoted the volume (mls) and weight (grams) because different brands here sometimes only quote one or the other.

I haven't tried Maple Shack brand yet - still have an almost full Buckwud organic to finish.

And, tell me, is it true that the darker the grade the more flavour it has?

Thanks! I usually buy Aldi's but noticed Maple Shack (as a new line some months ago) at H.B's. was slightly cheaper so wanted to spread the word!
For anyone is interested in the Canadian maple syrup consortium (the maple syrup equivalent of OPEC) the Netflix documentary dirty money is pretty good netflix.com/gb/…rue
Cheaper in Costco but I think you need to buy a full litre, keeps in the fridge though.

sorry, that's not how it works

Just as there is lighter and darker fruit, there is lighter and darker maple syrup. It's just a matter of subspecies.

What matters is how long they boil the maple syrup, how watery or viscous it is, and ultimately if there are ANY Additives. It's illegal in Canada to add anything to maple syrup... but that's not true for exports, or for maple syrup from the USA

believe it or not, the "kikkerland" brand (from Costco - a price club in Canada/USA) in general has quality foods of all sorts

I'd give that particular brand an A-

Thanks for the info.
The harvest for Canadian maple syrup only lasts about 4 months of a year, its drained from maple trees just like sap is from a rubber tree, that is why its so expensive, its as expensive a gold bullion.

not quite, but in Canada we expect to pay $10-$15 for a decent bottle, about 8 quid minimum and that's in the country of manufacture

you can expect to pay more here because of VAT, transport, and the "screw you, you live in the UK" mandatory surcharge
(I pay it too on other items... but then I just bring back as much maple syrup as I can whenever I go back for a visit)

Brexit is likely to add to the surcharge. Better stock up...
