Been looking for a soldering iron for a while, but need a temp controlled one for soldering sensitive components or on PCBs (ESD is particularly useful for this too). "My boss is a bit of a loon"

Hope he is an understanding loon as this reads" sack me please " lol

always wanted one like this. but I don't use them often to justify. hot though.

One of the Maplin reviews:

I have found that the tips for the Hakko 376 & 907 work well with this soldering station.... Thought I'd post this incase some of you were looking for a better selection of tips than the ones Maplin's carries.

Tempted but... what could I use this for, now that's the question.

Looks the same as the one sold by cpc for £42 cpc.farnell.com/ten…738

I'm tempted too, but still don't think I can justify it.

HOT!
P.s I hate this website LOL

thats a really good deal.
Looked for a cheap solder iron last week & Maplin didnt have any, so bought one from toolstation.
Its just about lasted long enough for me to do the job, but got to hot really.

Pity I cant justify spending £30 on the rarity Id use it.

Thank you very much.
Had one before, pretty poor temp accuracy and regulation BUT good value so ordered another

Thank you op was looking for a new soldering station for motherboard repair. heat added

If you just want to solder on PCB's there are soldering irons on ebay for £1.99 free postage

Up to 450°C? Hot!

just bought one, very good price, but through Amazon at the same price. Came on here to post it but already done X)

worth reading the reviews on Amazon

Just some pointers from someone who recently bought one of these … Just some pointers from someone who recently bought one of these fromanother source.. the iron stand slides around because there's no rubber feet.. Earth is wired from the 3-core internally to the iron (not the base)via a 5-pin din all the wires on that din are not insulated.. when you turn the unit on/off it will send a nasty spike down the mains.. Temp control uses a PIC micro controller which is placed next door tothe power mosfet and some electrolitic caps, i would not be happy aboutleaving it as-is with passive cooling unless you only need this for a short time. The good points are:You can get rubber feet really cheap, the insulation can be sorted with someheat-shrink tubing, again really cheap. some additional filter caps can helpwith spikes , agian really cheap. finally you can put a tiny fan inside.I got this iron and love it now, the tips have a wide range to choose from, replacement heaters are easy to get a hold of and its compatible with hakko 900.

i also purchased a pack of 10 compatible tips for £2.91 (long delivery from China) as per one of the reviewer's suggestions.

Thinking of getting into building my own solar panels, might grab one of these beauties. Nice1.

Ordered yesterday - delivered today!

Quidco too!

Cold, no wait...

ran out after work and grabbed one of these before they sold out in peterborough. loving it so far! and neary bought this last week at full price! result!

Bought one of these over a year ago, had to run it on highest temp to get it to touch lead free. Seemed good value for money but at this price it's a steal

The OP is a fool.

Yeah! How dare he post a good deal!

Shame on you, OP...

Ordered via Amazon and voted hot!!

I bought one from cpc at £42 or so pounds for a project. It replaced my old soldering iron and the one at work...... and what a change it was. Soldering with this new soldering station was like a revelation. What the f*ck was I doing with that old kit. I might as well have been using a clothes iron to solder with. You won't regret this purchase. I didn't. Just make sure you do have things to solder first or you will actually regret it after a while :-).

Excellent piece of kit. Thinking of buying another one for home instead of carting this kit backwards and forwards from work.

I have been waiting for an email from Maplin for when the graded version of this comes in stock again. When it does it has been £29.99 in the past so this is great - a brand new one for the same price. Cheers OP.

Would like a soldering iron which has an air pump to suck away the flux fumes which give me ashtma

Use a vacuum cleaner

Tempting...

i might be being ignorant but surely any soldering iron that has a ground pin on the plug would be "ESD protected". Is it just a marketing ploy? - anyone know about these things / am i missing something?

Damn it! Have to stop myself from buying another one and leaving it at work. Right at the final confirmation page, ha ha ha...... Don't want two but this has made soldering so much easier.

Sod it. I'll just cart it back and forth when I need to :-(.

I dpn't need it. I really want it...
