Thx guy, my first post hope it is good for someone

Very tempted but do I really need one ? Heat added

Looks very good, will keep an eye on this. Thanks for posting.

these things could do with being much cheaper - I know it's fear driven but I wouldn't mind one especially if it was smaller to hide on the little un.

I run a Duke of Edinburgh group and was wondering if anyone knows if these work in wilderness areas when groups are on an expedition?

Just a thought....it would need to be recharged alot...which means it would be hard to hide this in the car if its plugged into the cig lighter...also..with GPS based systems.....most would need to be in clear sight of the sky...same as GPS mapping systems

Depends on the chipset - any of my Sirfstar III based models (which this one uses) can pick up a lock even when they're inside the house or within the glovebox, under a seat etc. in the car. I'd quite like to play with one of these however this one seems to work via sms rather than gprs which isn't as useful.

The tr102 is neither new nor is it a replacement for the tr101
More likely I think is that Globalsat intend to launch the TR-203 which was exhibited at the Computex Taiwan in 2007 ]http//ww…469

As for the was £199, I don't think so.

If the device is unable to get a gps location, it will transmit the last known location and indicate this in the SMS message.
But in wilderness locations is it likely that the mobile phone signal is strong enough to send & receive SMS ?
