According to a couple of reviews on Maplin's own website the quality of the scanned images is absolutely dreadful. I want a slide scanner but have discovered after researching that you have to pay over £100 to get anything like decent results.

You need to forget these. You are much better off getting something like a Canon 8800F and using the slide inserts. Those will do 4 slides in one sweep.

Most of the Ion products are too cheaply made for what they need to do. I grabbed one of the twin cassette to usb decks to digitise a few tapes. Paid £20 for the deck and still feel ripped off. The motor inside is so puny that you get wow and flutter at best or the tape jams and the deck stops playing.

Not voting cold as the price is good compared with the normal £50+ but I couldn't recommend one of these.

im voting cold, i had two products from ion for slide scanning. both "scanned" the slides with washed out colours. Basically they are a very cheap 5mp camera sensor with a backlight to essentially photograph the slide/negative. This results in very poor repoduction. avoid at any cost. i paid between 50 and 80 for the two i tried and subsequently returned. i would avoid anything around or below that cost bracket.
