Marantz NR1607 Dolby Atmos DTS-X 4k AV Receiver (Slimline) = £389 - richersounds

Hope this helps someone who can't get some of the larger Atmos Amps in their AV Cabinet. This one is wafer thin compared to most and this doesn't impair the sound quality. Sonically i would say it sounds better than the rival Denon and definatley better than my old Sony and Onkyo's. Its listed as £399 but i called up and asked if the would discount it for a VIP member and the guy on the phone said best he could do was knock £10 off and give me premium delivery for free. I tool out the 6 years supercare for £38 because you can claim it back if you don't use it after 6 years. No brainer this one.
Some people have critisied the lack of a second hdmi output but this really isn't a problem for me i only need the one but its got 8 hdmi 2.2 inputs which leaves me some spare after i connected all 6 devices. Comes with Audessy Mic for room / speaker setup and its awesome very easy and does a great job of optimisation. I added a +1 to the centre channel but that was it.

Good deal but struggling to see past the Denon AVR X2300W on at £349, also at Richer Sounds.

FWIW the Marantz is DLNA 1.5, I know i use it and its a dodle to play via my NAS this must be an error on Richersounds website or its been updated by firmware update like the DTS-X was. So this is a real competitor to the Denon.
Sorry to go a little off topic guys but how does the Marantz SR7011 compare to the Denon 4300H? Is it worth the higher price? I think the Marantz offers multi room video too with its 3 zones if I'm not mistaken? Any help greatly appreciated.

I would listen to both in an Atmos environment first, i did and the Marantz wins to my ears. Don't get me wrong the Denon was good also but its a big old ugly beast.

Having had the X2100W (basically a X2300W without Atmos and HDCP2.2) and the NR1504 (very similar to the NR1607 albeit only 5.1), I can confirm that the NR range does sound noticeably better for Music even if it has a lower Audyssey version. And it is not underpowered, I used it to drive 2 pairs of floorstanders. Plus it looks better! The Denon has the slight edge for movies.

I was struggling to decide between black or silver but then Richersounds made my mind up they only had black in stock. (_;)

Im not sure if your disputing this or agreeing but if i had edited it it would say so below the post with time and date. like your second post does. You can clearly see that i have not edited the initial post. If i had i would have corrected all the spelling errors lol.
I bought the NR1506 as I didn't need the additional channels, sounds great and is plenty powerfull enough driving a pair of Kef floorstanders and eggs for the rear.

Love the DLNA and airplay features on this, I use my Android phone with "Squeeze Ctrl" to control my LMS media server and use Airplay as the protocol to stream as the Marantz supports it. Everything is seemless and instant, DLNA also works but I find that a little flakey by comparison.

Got rid of my logitech squeeze box duet, finally!

I'd like a slimmer amp - plus the upgraded functionality - over my ageing Onkyo SR308 - how do the slimmer units cope with heat? It'd certainly be easier to find cabinet space for.

Can't comment on the 160x but I have the 1506 which shares the same chassis. The 1506 is around 10cm high and I have it in one of those Ikea low slung TV benches with a 15cm gap.

I've had it powered on everyday for nearly a year, for a few hours at a time, plus it's on standby overnight and not had any issues. It shares the space with a PS3 (rarely used) and an ATX sized HTPC I built from scratch over Christmas....

No heat issues at all. Just keep the dust down

Its fine, i worried about this too i have about 1cm gap either side and 5cm above the unit in an ikea type cabinet and
its been on for over a week its not even got warm.

Thanks both, I will look into this further. For my uses it makes sense to have a smaller unit rather than a hulking monster Onkyo, particularly when the one I have's functionality is getting on a bit - no 4K, no wifi, no USB...

8 HDMI input sockets will save a fair bit of hot-swapping as well!
Great deal and been eyeing up the Marantz to replace my old Yamaha for a while but I just wish it had two hdmi outputs so I can hook it up to my projector with it.

The silver one isn't listed on their website, does Richersound sell it in silver over the phone?
How better is the SR7011 than this as wondering whether it's better to keep to a sensible budget or not?
Definatley looking at getting the Denon to replace my Onkyo 636 as it only 1 HDCP2.2 input and no HDR passthrough the Denon's specs are the same Onkyo 656 and they dont have them online anymore. This Marantz is a nice amp but its lacking on power only 50watts

Im not sure where this 50 watts comes from because its officially rated at 90w per channel ! my previous Sony str-dg820 was 110w per channel and this seams just as powerful in my medium sized room. Don't believe the neysayers try it you will surprised you can easily deafen yourself before you loose definition and or damage the speakers.

I gotta say, I'm having some bother (documented elsewhere on the web) with my Denon x2300 not seeing some of my DLNA setup. Apparently it's fixable with a hard reset, which I've still to try, failing that the network module needs replaced.

Can't fault the Denon performance tho.
What atmos upfiring speakers to go with this?!
Does anyone know what DAC this uses as I want to find out if this DAC handles pure DSD decoding or if it converts DSD to PCM before output?

It's probably 50w RMS in 8 ohms (20hz -20Khz). Often the higher amount of watts relates to 1Khz fixed testing with a higher distortion level typically 0.8 to 1%
The chassis size would suggest something around the 50w range.
