Marantz PM5005 & Marantz CD5005 What HiFi 5 Star Amplifier - Free Next Day Delivery - £299 @ Home AV Direct

After recently purchasing a new turntable, I dug out my old NAD 3220PE amplifier only to find it playing up so I have been searching and reading reviews for a more modern but affordable amplifier with Phono inputs. There have been lots of glowing reports for the PM5005 so it is one I have been keeping an eye out for whilst at the same time the matching CD player.

These were retailing at £249.00 each so to get both with a two year warranty and free next day delivery from an authorised Marantz dealer for £299 is pretty good.

There are plenty of other combinations, for example:

Marantz PM5005 with a pair of Mission Lx-2 Speakers and 5m QED 79 strand £289.90
Marantz PM5005 with a pair of Acoustics 3010 Bookshelf Speakers and 5m QED 79 strand £289.90
Marantz PM5005 with a pair of Tannoy Eclipse ONE Bookshelf Speakers and 5m QED 79 strand £289.90

If you just want the Marantz PM5005 on its own then £149.90 and next day delivery is still a cracking price, granted there are a few other sellers getting near to the price but I haven't seen anything close with the bundle option of the CD player included.

Official Sales Pitch -
New to the Marantz collection, this excellent entry-level integrated amplifier breaks all the rules. That’s because it’s the first in its class to offer current feedback architecture – a feature that normally is reserved for the more expensive models. This technology provides very fast and accurate signal handling, which results in perfectly balanced stereo sound reproduction as well as a very open and precise sound stage. It’s also been recently enhanced with performance–optimising discrete audio circuitry and fine-tuning components.

The amp is £150 and CD player is £169 or so. Not really a great deal

I know a dedicated amp is better, but how would this CD player, or the 6006 pair with something like a RVX379 and Tannoy Eclipse 3s? No noticeable difference?

A saving of £20 is a saving of £20 the deal was posted for anyone looking for this Amplifier either on it's own or as part of a package, yes the amplifier is £149 on it's own which is still a deal in itself

I would say no noticeable difference, the Marantz does have Phono which is ideal for anyone who has or wants to add a turntable.
    2 x 40 w/8 ohm rms ?
    Yes.
Great price for this combo. I had my heart set on these after reading lots of reviews, then I went into Richer sounds to listen to them. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I know it's a a big price increase, but the Cambridge Audio stuff totally blew these away so I'm going to pay a little more and go that route. A decent stereo is not something you should need to buy often.
It's all obviously very subjective to the listener of course.

Which one did you listen to? What won you over.
Still using my Sony Amp from my compact 58 set up which i bought in 1987, it's twice as load as this.

APM speakers gave up the ghost 2 years ago (after 28 years of solid service), they took some hammer in my younger days I can tell ya.

Replaced those with some Pioneer speakers from a charity shop, an absolute steal at just £5
who needs high frequencies... when you can't hear them?

Well, part of my posting this deal was to hear opinions from those either considering this amp or who actually own it. I too would be interested to know which CA amp you listened to and what extra price is it please, if it has a phono connection I too might be interested

CXA60 + Monitor Audio Silver 50. Like I say, more cash, but to me it felt like it was a worthwhile upgrade from my old system from student days.

Did you compare the CXA60 to something similar in price?

I'd encourage you to order this so you don't lose out, then go visit your local Richer Sounds and see what you think for yourself. My addled ears from years of loud Walkmans (yes, original tape ones) may have a very different perception to you.
The Amp itself was £500 so not in the same budget.

Now that would've been too sensible. I'd be surprised if it was much better though. Really made the sound how I liked. I will return with my own CDs to test before buying though. The Marantz 6006 with Dali's lacked depth to me, was too bright. All IMHO. (£280 + £319)

Dali's were brighter than the Silver's? Surprised about that. Being paper vs metal.

I find the Silver's very deep, good bass. But I think the Dali's are more musical. Drum and Bass I'd be all over the Silver's Did you have the Dali's backed against a wall? That helps a lot with them. The Silver's don't really need that. It will make them boomy.

What I love about this deal is you can add a Chromecast or Bluetooth receiver, a pair of decent speakers and a quality turntable and still have spent less than the price of a mid to high end sound bar. And have an order of magnitude better sound.
