So misleading, the whole items are MDF and not oak.
    But still a good price.

Had chairs similar to these from homebase before, they've lasted 6 years and still going, however have ordered 6 black chairs now as the base was going on a couple of them now. Cheers OP!

OOS everywhere near me. Its always the same with Argos and Homebase deals

Whats the point of having these on sale if you dont have the stock available. Or is it just a marketing tool to get you to check out other stock?

I know what your saying but some people can't afford more on a tight budget these days, so it's not so much that people "don't mind junk furniture"

For the rest of us used furniture is not only cheaper but by upscaling with a splash of paint can turn something old and battered into something that's actually very sellable for more money. Have a look on YT to find out how to age wooden furniture with paint effects like 'crackling'.

Sounds like they need to get new friends then !

As someone has said before, it’s not about ‘folk not minding cheap tat furniture’. It’s about how you ‘cut your cloth’ surely?
If you have need for a table, chairs etc but have not got the budget for overpriced products that in reality, serve exactly the same function then, these are really quite a good buy.
I know from experience that a very well known ‘oak furniture’ seller only uses real oak on 1 part of the actual item. The rest is either MDF or wood of a lesser quality covered with thin oak overlay.

MDF is a very stable and strong material that isn't prone to warping etc. If assembled with good quality fixings to a sensible design it *can* be a good choice for furniture. Kitchens are built from the far worse chipboard and on the whole we don't have problems.
Experience of cheaper MDF furniture such as this is that it's probably designed well enough to do the job it was designed for while not being exceptional. (edited)

For people on a budget your not going to get a better deal on furniture than this.
  12. Avatar
I understand if your budget can't stretch any further then these are an option, but for those just looking for a bargain I would steer clear.
Recent homebase furniture I have seen in store is very poor, not the old homebase quality unfortunately since the numerous take overs.

For those who have tight budgets but like quality there is nothing wrong in buying secondhand furniture, you will get alot for your money, real oak or a good solid piece you can upcycle with a little work. Will last years and not lose its character, unlike cheap MDF furniture.

Just picked ours up. Shame can’t get the sideboard would have been excellent

quality is top notch too many snobs on here moaning quality just because they didn’t get hold of the deal
  14. Avatar
Hence the price can’t argue with the price!
  15. Avatar
These will do nicely to replace my even cheaper tat in the front room
Bagged myself a sideboard and coffee table
    Thank OP
  16. Avatar
I don't get why people are moaning about these prices even if they are MDF. Next have sold similar sideboards and coffee tables for £400+ which is also MDF.

In comparison, these are a steal.

    Heat OP

If you look after cheaper furniture it will do its job and still look good

Hell my next furniture has taken a beaten over the years but some of my cheap Hermes stuff look much better for it's age. Swings and roundabouts (edited)

I have to agree with most comments on quality. I went through the MDF phase and it's not great at all. You can get some amazing deals from eBay/ gumtree if you look. I have a custom made oak sideboard from eBay that was an absolute steal and also paid less than a tenner for an oak dining table.

Not sure about stability, if you have a problem you could anchor it to a wall to add extra stability. But, check the mounting system for the arm works with the wood that runs along the side of the table. The arm clamp I have only clamps onto a fully flat surface, and that side bit would get in the way. Some arms have other clamping options, like drilling through the table to secure it, or wider/deeper clamps that would reach over the side piece.

To insult someone on their opinion is such an ableist thing to do in todays society.

    Not nonsensical arguments at all.

People buy what they can afford.

Who's insulting? Again, better quality items can be bought affordably. I believe that's the point myself and other's are trying to make. MDF furniture is generally poorly made and not designed to last.

Was going to make this into a Deal post but realised this thread is here already. Picked up two Chocolate colour Marcy Dining Chairs from Oban earlier.

They also advertise Midnight (not sure if there's more stock in the back) but from looking at pictures, Midnight (blue) appears to be a fabric-y material versus the faux leather of the Chocolate, so I think I made the right choice.46732689-nf3Ua.jpg46732689-d6xn9.jpg (edited)

MDF or not the finish from the photos looks good. On cheap MDF you tend to get the obvious glued final layer of vinyl and easily chips and peels in the corners ruining the effect.
