Excellent. I wanted to get this digitally, no finding (and losing) little carts and there whenever I need it.

That's not bad for digital. But will stick with my £40 physical pre order for now. But would prefer digital, as it's such a pick up and play go to game
Wow, the switch prices are insane! You'd never hear of a PS4/XB1 remaster launching at this kind of price, and this is a straight port!

Can you provide any examples? I have a feeling they would go ice cold if posted as 'deals' on here.

Wasn't games like Last of Us, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider all full price when launched?

Define full price and any examples? I was genuinely trying to find some examples of ports/remasters launching at £45+ (actual price rather than RRP) before submitting this comment and couldn't.

No. Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider were around the £35-40, which is also too much in my view! The most expensive I could find for Tomb Raider was £42.85 pre-order and that deal quite rightly went stone cold! See above for TLOU.

What about digital though?

If we're comparing apples with oranges here, then I'm sure a lot of people have got Mario Kart pre ordered for about £38 from Amazon for the physical version

Well the less said about Nintendo's digital pricing strategy (and to a lesser and diminishing extent other publishers), the better. I meant pricing in general, because the physical version is £40+ which is also way too much in my view.

Having bought the sublime Bioshock trilogy with steelbook and all DLC on pre-order for £34, I really can't understand straight ports of single games releasing for considerably more. This applies whatever the platform/publisher, but is particularly frustrating in this case because I LOVED MK8 on the Wii U and would love another excuse to get a switch, but not at this price.

Nintendo have seemed always to be the most arrogant and stubborn in their habits.

I think all console prices are insane! I pay no more than £24.99 for brand new AAA+ PC games.

That said, at least with Switch games have a lot of replay value. MK8 will still be getting played in 12 months time.

Are you referencing my first comment? It's a turn of phrase, meaning that Nintendo's digital pricing 'strategy' is ridiculous.
Another day, another sizzling hot Switch deal!
Not sure why this is being voted cold... Is it cheaper else where?

Great price for the digital version, thanks OP

Doesn't matter if it's not cheaper elsewhere. Forty seven smackers for a three year old game is taking the P. Not a hot deal full stop. Having said that, I will buy it. A fact of which I've no doubt Nintendo is fully aware.

Eh, not too bad IMO, considering it comes with all the DLC etc, by the time you buy the Wii U version and the DLC it probably equals out.

I guess. Really turns on whether you've bought the game and DLC before (as I have). But if you're new to MK8... it's a bargain!!

Amazon is actually charging £40 for MK8 - but only if you're a Prime member. Otherwise, cheapest is £41.99... GAME are charging around £50.

The Last of Us never topped £40 at launch and was a proper remaster, with extensive work done into justifying its cost. MK8 is a lazy port job with the only reason justifying its cost being that it has "Nintendo" slapped on the front cover.

I'm not saying that MK8 is a bad game. Far from it, as it's very much one of the very best games available on Wii U, but if you look at any of the other pre-order prices on competing platforms (Crash Bandicoot and Bulletstorm are both posted today as a comparison) then you'll realise that there is no justifiable reason as to why Nintendo "remasters" (although I'd be inclined to call them straight up ports) need to cost that much.

Skyrim and Bioshock never cost that much either... And look as to how much content those games had within them, and how much work was done in justifying their (barely) AAA price-tag.

I'm pretty sure some people got it less than £40 using the big thanks code promotion on Amazon.

Like I said, and someone else pointed out. Why compare digital prices to physical? Everyone knows physical is always going to be cheaper and have the better pre order prices.

Just the standard Switch deal bashing that kicks off on here

I wasn't comparing physical to digital... I'm not a fan of digital and try to avoid the format on most occasions.

You misconstrue the Switch deal bashing to imply that there is some inherent agenda behind peoples motives for not liking Nintendo deals... But the truth of the matter is that there are plenty of Nintendo games that have gone on to receive considerable heat - if only because they are priced appropriately, and because their inherent worth justifies the price tag.

The Switch in most cases... doesn't. And that is why most of its deals go freezing cold.

Only the most deluded of fanboys would defend Nintendo on its unashamed attempt in conning Switch owners. Sony aren't doing it - with Crash Bandicoot being a very recent example. MS aren't doing it - with the Halo MC Collection being another example. Even third party publishers don't really do it - case in point: the Arkham trilogy, Skyrim, Bioshock trilogy... I could go on.

Nintendo have always charged ridiculous amounts. Look at their EShop VC Snes prices as an example. Failing that, take a look at what they charged for the Zelda remasters on Wii U. And failing that, just take a cursory glance at their 3DS prices.

There is no reason as to why Nintendo should be charging so much for their games - save for the fact that they are an incredibly greedy company, and because they know that they have millions of fans who are prepared to put up with paying that amount.

But to be honest... it's that attitude that has contributed towards why Nintendo are now essentially third place in the console market. Where most respectable third parties aren't prepared to touch them. And whilst Nintendo fans won't care, it's worth bearing in mind that at one point, the company owned 90% of the console market. Let that sink in for a second... 90%. And look where they are now... They made their bed and are now sleeping in it. With everyone and their grandma citing them as glorified "has-beens".

EDIT: People might have got it less than £40 using the Big Thanks promotion code, but you specifically stated "ordered for about £38". And no, that still doesn't excuse what is currently a ridiculously high pre-order price.

Some would argue that Nintendo have already exited the console market given that Switch, mockingly referred to as Nintendo Shield, is a mobile device. Yes, it can also be connected to a TV but so can most smarphones, tablets, Nvidia Shield and numerous handheld consoles so let's not pretend that its claims to be a console are anything more than marketing persuasion.

With Switch, iOS, Android and 3DS, Nintendo is now a company dedicated exclusively to mobile platforms. Whether they ever attempt to re-enter the console market remains to be seen. I hope they do because what Sony and Microsoft have to offer holds no interest for me.
Thanks, good deal. Heat added. Amazon pre order cancelled.

I hope they don't. I don't want all the great 3rd party titles to be bogged down by yet another platform to optimise for.

Nintendo are their own market.

Ditto. Regardless of whether I buy a Switch I definitely hope to see Nintendo one day release a proper console again. Sadly, if Switch does well (over the longer term, not just right now) then they'll presumably have little financial incentive to do so.
So did anyone receive their code yet? Just passed 12.

Mario Kart 8 is so good I don't even think a Mario Kart 9 could beat it at this point.
