buy this, return the first order.
Already got MK8 on the Wii U, but looking forward to the definitive edition when it's re-released again on XBox One X. Man, the game is going to look sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good when it finally manages to utilise all those 6 Teraflops of Pure Power!

Even better, thegamecollection granted me a refund on the difference in price. They really are the best customer service team I've ever dealt with.
Got a Switch with this and Zelda. In a strange way I wasn't that psyched about MK. How wrong was I. What a great game and moreover what a great value title with all the extra stuff.

Not even got started on any online or higher cc races yet

I was disappointed with the graphics were compared to the Wii U, IMO the difference isn't very noticeable. It's a fairly generic 720p to 1080p conversion with all the DLC included.

Will wait for MK9 for the next gen Mario Kart.

Graphical focus is damaging the industry. It's part of the reason we have excessive DLCs and micro transactions. And the reason why there is a lack of gaming variety and innovation bar aside Indies and Nintendo.

I'm looking to upgrade my TV... I don't see the point if I'm going to stick with Nintendo. Might as well have stayed B/W...
Got this the other day and played it with friends four player on a 65 inch tv and it was great fun. Handled well enough with the tiny controllers. No real slow down.
Heat for the price.
Heat added for a near 4 year old game at 40 quid!
Jk, voted cold.

Micro transactions are growing because they make an obscene amount of money. Lowering production costs won't change that. The mobile market isn't exactly graphics driven and that basically exists because of microtransactions. Companies locking down modding to protect their microtransaction revenue will cause more harm to innovation than rising production costs for AAA titles. Nintendo even went one better and started locking difficulty levels behind amibos.

Not so bad though between the likes of kickstarter and early access we have more indie games than ever before.

That's true. The other reason is that people aren't willing to pay, especially for mobile games. E.g the escapists price variation for mobile and console.

Will admit that the Amiibos are flawed, and shouldn't have serious DLC like content locked behind them. Or at least an alternative like a dlc payment without having to by figures.

But I was mainly thinking about games like FIFA and COD and the rise in Micro transactions in AAA games.
Take note of Star Wars battlefront for an example, they had DLCs (obviously to make a profit but probably the game by itself wouldn't have turned over a huge profit due to dev costs). People didn't like there excessive DLCs, so enter the 2nd instalment with the alternative micro transactions.
They can't charge more than £50 for a game or else t will sell poorly, so they have to find alternatives to actually profit from the game.
Tomb raider sold i think about 3.4 million but was considered a commercial failure due to Dec costs. 3.4 million!!
80% of AAA developers went out of business due to high developments costs during the 7th console gen era.

I think it was a firmly tongue in cheek statement
I'm desperate to play this, but I don't have a switch, which I think is a major issue.

Even the Wii U is still very expensive

80% of went out of business? This does not seem accurate especially given the number and variety of games we are seeing this year. Admittedly the stakes are higher as a bad game or two can kill a smaller studio. Equally a publisher pulling out early can do the same(see Microsoft nearly ending Platinum). Square Enix always sets unrealistic targets did they ever release the actual dev cost of the Tombraider reboot?

Ninja Theory have shown with Hellblade what can be achieved without breaking the bank. Hopefully we'll see more games along the lines of Uncharted Lost Legacy as well. Shorter, cheaper games but still with very high production values.

Personally I like where it's going for multiplayer games. Season passes etc are disappearing and being replaced with cosmetic micro-transactions. The developer gets a longer term revenue stream and the game lasts longer as the player population isn't split. If people want to support the game past the purchase price they can do so by buying skins everyone else gets all the extra content that matters at no additional cost.
