A must have game if you’ve recently bought switch. Not a bad price for new copy around £42 everywhere else.

Hit the road with the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 and play anytime, anywhere! Race your friends or battle them in a revised battle mode on new and returning battle courses. Play locally in up to 4-player multiplayer in 1080p while playing in TV Mode. Every track from the Wii U version, including DLC, makes a glorious return. Plus, the Inklings appear as all-new guest characters, along with returning favorites, such as King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.!

Good price, Amazon, simply games, toys r us game and many other retailers have been out of stock of this for a while now.

Great price but says out of stock, will keep an eye, Cheers OP.
Poor game. Most disappointing game have played on Switch so far. Have effectively bought the same game twice now (Wii U also). The Wii U game was poor, this is not much better and just fixes some of the issues of the Wii U game, which should have not needed fixed in the first place. Very lazy stuff from Nintendo.

Battle games are improved, but still not as good as MK7 3DS battle games. There is only 8 maps also.

Shockingly you don't even have to unlock the cups! You get given them from the start a poor decision at Nintendo HQ that one. Unlocking and earning the cups is half the fun of GP solo play for kids (and adults too). Just abysmal and a basic error of judgement. This is the first MK game where you don't unlock cups as far as I can remember.

Is also just a Nintendo Kart game, rather than a MK game, as it has been diluted by including other game characters like Zelda and Animal Crossing. We can only hope MK10 does not include Kirby and Metroid.

Am a Nintendo fan and been playing MK since SNES, so probably being generous in reviewing this game at 5/10.

Heated. I litterally place an order on amazon this morning twice, one when priced at £47 then was reduced an extra 12%...so canceled and reordered at the lower price at £41.99...to the cancel to get this deal. (note, both reductions on Amazon have been on the game that's still out of stock also)

Am a Nintendo fan..

No way .
The mixing of other characters into the game wouldn't bother me much. Is the racing itself any good?
heated but I’m not buying til it’s sub 30
Brilliant game. Massive amounts of fun and runs so smoothly. Noticeably smoother than the wii u version.

Some challenge with cups would have been nice..

Agree. Can't justify this as have the Wii U version with DLC.

That said, think we'll be waiting a while for sub £30....

Well the being able to hold 2 items once again improves it no end. Otherwise much the same as MK8 Wii U. The graphics are nice, noticeably sharper, more colour and a good improvement. Looks great on a large TV too.

There are some daft new features here and there, like the pointless new feather item. You can do different grades of drifting boosts now, which is a good addition.

Exactly my reason.
I can wait tho, could’ve got it for £35 off eBay with the 20% the other day but still thought that was too much.

I completely disagree. If you've played many games on the Switch you'd know there are soo many that are poor. Bomberman (even with updates) is absolute trash. Mario + Rabbids (imo) is the worst game I've played, it's soo repetitive and boring. Street fighter is just Street fighter with one extra mode for the joy-cons (which is rubbish). Lego Worlds which is just terrible on all platforms. There are many more I could name.... We all have our own opinions, but many more will agree Mario Kart 8 is a great game.

The game is a must have on the Nintendo Switch. It is obviously a very similar game to the Wii U version hence the name (with the added deluxe). However a lot more people have bought the Switch and it means there's a Mario Kart available from its release. The deluxe part brings in the extra weapons, characters, courses, battle modes and the auto drive mode for small kids.

Everyone who owns a Nintendo console wants a Mario Kart game. This way you get one from the start and you'll get another when Mario Kart 9 is released.

I agree with you about having all of the content from the start - there is just no incentive to play single player with all tracks and characters available from the start. Great for multiplayer but found single player pointless without the rewards (ok, you can unlock cars, but they hardly make a difference)
Pardon my ignorance, but how much is this normally? I bought this game a few month ago and im sure it was around this price??

Haven't played all those games (only played 6 or 7 Switch games). But agree with the jest of what your saying, I don't really get what the Rabbids game is about either.

MK8D was MK9 ? Or is that a debate too? Also agree MK8D has its many fans, but that it is divisive with the last 2 games and gone off track a bit, is understandable there is debate. I feel less excited about next MK game be it 9 or 10 , but maybe I can get a nice surprise.

BTW, Zeek have a good voucher offer on ending today, £5 off for ever £50 spend x 6 times you can do it. Thinking of £300 Argos vouchers, plus an extra 6% of on top of that for Argos and the Quidco CB for Zeek. Might buy in anticipation of a future Switch console price drop at Argos, as a good way to acquire a 2nd Switch console.

£49.99 has been the RRP from Nintendo. Has always easily been available at £44.99. Think there are less £39.99 options at moment as stock is low with Xmas just past.

I have to completely disagree with you. I've also played all the Mario Kart games since the SNES and I think Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe is the best version since the N64 (possibly even better) and is one of my favourite games of all time.

It's obviously a matter of personal preference, but if you look at reviews and overall popularity of the game you'll find most people love it.

With regards to not having to unlock the cups, my guess would be that this decision was made due to Nintendo being aware that many of the people buying this will have already owned or completed MK8 on the Wii U and may just want to be able to play the courses without having to complete all the cups all over again.
Simply Games have this at £39.99. They’re out of stock as well though. Seems everywhere is sold out.
MK8 Deluxe is not as basic as a rehash. Updates include:

* New characters (king boo, dry bones, inkling boy and girl [who have multiple outfits]), bowser jr and gold Mario (finish all 200cc cups)
* All DLC from prior game - 4 cups/16 tracks
* Amiibo unlockable outfit addition
* New karts/parts x4
* New battle modes
* Dual items capability
* Extra boost on drift
* Smart steering (great for kids)
* Quick turn - which makes battle mode more bearable for instant 180 turns
* Smart acceleration (great for kids)
* Change karts/characters while waiting in lobbies (good addition)
* Removed fire-hopping exploit
* 1080p in TV mode (Wii U was 720p)

I can understand the cups being unlocked being a bit unusual, but for me, I don't mind - as someone above has said, there are loads of us who've already unlocked them on the WIi U.
I wasn't a big fan of the Wii U version but loving this one so far. Single player is still ridiculously easy but online multiplayer has been a blast so far and it's great that you can play it with a significant other straight out of the box. I just wish the track selection didn't keep bringing up the same tracks time and time again.

I know that traditionally there has only been 1 Mario kart per console. However I honestly feel this should/would be the only exception. As this is the first time Nintendo have ever released a deluxe version of Mario kart. Whether they call it Mario Kart 9/10, we won't know. Fingers crossed it happens as us Wii U owners will have had this game for years....

Sorry I’m another that has to completely disagree with this.

Played every Mario Kart ever and this is easily the best. My only gripe is that I wish I could create a tournament/cup and pick who my 11 rival racers are and it not be random every time.
This is the best Mario Kart since Double Dash. I personally think there is plenty to do offline. Who cares that you don't have to unlock cups, you can still play them in order. You are literally moaning at not having a screen tell you that you've unlocked the next cup. You have to win all the cups to unlock 200cc, the staff time trials are great fun and if you beat them you can go against people who have a better time than you.
There is single player challenge with getting all the trophies.

But opening up new courses etc would have been good.

I'd also hoped for some DLC... the nintendo themed ones are great.
Awesome, the game plays flawlessly on Switch, every track, every character, battle and vs mode, a noob smart steering and acceleration mode for those who want to stand a chance against drifters and tight turners with the option to turn it off for a challenge, a must have for Mario Kart local and online multiplayer.

If theres one downside it’s that the RNG is absolutely nuts.
