Turn Your Racing Experience Upside Down in Mario Kart 8!

For the first time in HD, Nintendo’s Mario Kart franchise comes to the Wii U console, introducing new racing circuit designs and antigravity karts that will have players driving upside down. Players will also enjoy a variety of series-favorite features, including the return of 12-player online competitive play, hang-gliders, underwater racing and motorbikes.

Mario Kart 8 Features:

The new antigravity feature in Mario Kart 8 allows for never-imagined racing circuit designs. Players will speed through courses and find themselves suddenly racing on walls in a haunted mansion or upside-down over Princess Peach’s Castle as their wheels automatically rotate and shift into antigravity gear.
Mario Kart TV lets players share highlight videos they submitted to Miiverse.
Experience a wealth of features that span the series, including 12-player online competitive play. Elements first introduced in Mario Kart 7, such as hang gliders and underwater racing, along with elements introduced in Mario Kart Wii, such as motorbikes and performing tricks in midair, also make their return.
Fan-favorites Waluigi and Toadette re-join the cast of familiar characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.
Mario Kart 8's Crisp HD graphics and a 60-frames-per-second frame rate offer players the most visually stunning entry in the series yet.

Next-gen is finally arriving A little late, but it's always left to Nintendo to show the others how it's done X)

Depending on how well they use the gamepad could determine how next gen it is. Next gen isn't just about graphics, but gameplay.

It should always be about gameplay as graphics have been good enough for a long time , and if its graphics you want get a decent pc.

I hope Amazon drop soon. I'd buy it from them in a heartbeat, but not when they're £5 more expensive.

One game to save them all

Reading the previews, MK8 ticks all the boxes; something that Shadow Fall and Ryse fell short by a country mile.

'Next-Gen' starts with MK8... Nintendo sets game quality standards, always have, always will. It's what you pay your money for.

Could always give flubit a try with the Amazon link, should get a few quid knocked off. I'm waiting for an Amazon price drop too, got some gift vouchers to use...

Also, check your emails - some Amazon members are being sent notification of an offer: buy £20 worth of gift cards and get extra £5 free.

or the similar offer that I got: buy £50 worth of gift vouchers & get £10 voucher.

If the conditions are the same then the vouchers need to be bought before end of April & then the £10 voucher will be sent but can only be used between 16th & 31st May - which is perfect timing for pre-ordering Mario Kart 8 obviously (hopefully Amazon drop the price for MK8 before release also!)

Let's get some perspective here people. This is *not* nextgen.

I have a 360. I have a PS4, I have a Wii U. I chose not to buy an Xbox One. Well, infact, not completely true. I did buy a day one edition but I didn't keep it.

However, back on track (ex the pun), this is *not* next gen. If you think it is, then you need to try and define next gen for me. From where I am sat, I see cars, in brightly coloured cartoon representation, on a brightly coloured track. I see nothing particularly new or unique in this title. I absolutely expect fun when I get it, in bucket loads, but, I do not see next generation. Fun is not next gen. Fun = fun.

If you do see next gen, enlighten me as to where this game has taken the medium into the next generation.

I liked it when he said next gen.

Without wanting to start (another) a fight, next gen simply means the next generation as in the Wii was the previous generation & the Wii U is now the next gen. It has nothing to do with moving the medium of gaming forward, it's just an upgrade which - compared to the Wii version of Mario Kart - this qualifies as. Just because the game is much the same as the previous game that doesn't mean it isn't next gen or 'nextgen' - check any PS4 or XB1 games & the only difference will be speed & graphics with the same game underneath.

Knack always looked bland and colourless.

People keep saying next gen thinking it means something, it's 6 years at least until the ps5 and xbox 2 come out, we don't even have any ideas on what gimmicks they'll have in the next generation consoles.

Next generation is colloquially understood as new and defining. The wii u is largely considered as not in that area. It is a good console, and like I said above, I have one but, it does not mean that someone should refer to the new Mario kart as next gen for that reason alone.

Strangely, a game on the previous gen, in my opinion was next gen. The way gta 5 and it's expansive landscape and very broad gameplay opened gaming. The platform it was on and the graphics it had, in that instance, we're not the drivers but the game itself was.

In fairness, I suppose one can only comment with conviction until MK8 has been played, however, it seems like a typical Mario racer, so for someone to type 'welcome to the nextgen', maybe they have hands on experience of the said and maybe it truly is a gen shift. Doesn't look like it from here though.

There's a glut of hands on previews out there released over two weeks ago. Clearly, you've been living on a submarine so you need to catch up. Get reading

The next-gen thing means just that - the predecessor. It has nothing to do with graphics or power or toy cars. This version of Mario kart was not possible on the Wii, and it's - so gathered from the previews - the first defining game this new generation.

I borrowed a little from those who barter next-gen around as giggaflops jiggawhatsits, because in the case of MK8, you can - I was being a little naughty

Or you could have Metal Gear Solid HD, Sly Cooper HD, Last Guardian HD, Last of Us HD. at least most of it is original and updated. Not just improved graphics

yeah they did when i ordered last week anyway!

Ugh! Tiresome "gen" talk. Nice, but I'll be going digital with this game. Heat tho

Does anyone know when the £5 off voucher code is valid until? I've pre-ordered the game elsewhere but I'm having a load of hassle so I might just cancel it and go with Tesco
