Looks like the price has changed - I ordered one at £1.97 a few minutes ago - thanks OP!
This comment put me right off...

"Purchased this plug in October and we are now in February... within four months the plug has nearly set my house on fire.... I would not recommend using this product. I have a young child and it was fortunate that I was in the room when it started to melt otherwise god knows what would of happened."
I bought mine from Lidl £3.99
Misleading post I am on Prime and it isn't £1.97.

Plug into Surge protector to stop that maybe?

Shouldn't have too
Its not worth the risk
This is a 10amp rated device, the previous version (same model number) is 13amp. I wonder if people plug in too much and overloaded it?

Reading that review, it's possible a poorly fitted mains plug could have overheated, if the wire going inside the plug was loose for example) and caused the problem. No way to know but I've seen it happen on a few occasions....dodgy 2 or 3 way adaptors, poorly fitted wires into plug, of course the timer may well have been faulty.

However the display is tiny and hard to see..... the way it works is logical but not user friendly.
