Maybe they can afford to do this sale with the money they are not giving to the families of the Rana Plaza disaster.

I was gonna say don't forget your student discount:

nus.org.uk/en/…an/

But therealslimkaty makes an interesting point. I didn't know Matalan still hadn't paid and was amazing Primark did first. Looks like I am too late to go, is starting now.

Great deals thanks!

ON THE MATALAN SITE !

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
We at Matalan continue to be deeply shocked by the tragedy at Rana Plaza and its effects on the families of those killed or injured. From the beginning, we realised that urgent and continued support was needed to get help to the families as soon as possible.

......

We wish to make it clear that we have never been ordered by any organisation to pay compensation or been found culpable for the tragedy. However, our company is happy to continue to make substantial contributions to help the people who need it most. The ILO has confirmed that it has made no orders for payments nor made deadlines for such payments from any organisation in the Industry.

That doesn't say they have paid anything to the families. It just says they 'help people in need'. Also, just because they haven't been ordered to, does that mean they have no ethical obligation?

Everything I click on says "page not found"

I asked in my local store yesterday and the sales assistant discretely told me it started at 8am so I was there ready on the dot. I had the store to myself for nearly an hour - felt a bit like a celebrity who has had the store opened just for me!! Got quite a few bargains needless to say!

So... ?? I wouldn't blindly post on this thread if I didn't know what Matalan had said in their official statement.

I have already responded to that claptrap on their official Facebook page the day before yesterday. Several other British companies have paid their fare share of the compensation to the families, but Matalan hasn't. As another poster here has said, it's not ABOUT "being forced", it's about having basic morals and ethics. They also won't say how much money they have contributed to the tragedy now that they're saying they have contributed something. Why? If it was their £3 million estimated fair share they would be crowing about it.

how is it Matalans or Primarks responsibility to compensate? did they build the factory?? They gave no moral or ethical responsibility to do anything.

I wouldn't buy their crap if it was 99% off
