Thanks emasu

I used to work for Dixons and Matsui is a terrible brand... Our returns were nearly all Matsui products.

My Sister got us one of these a while back (in fact she got the previous model which was OK until about 3 months later when the display died, so it was exchanged for the DABR103).

Be warned, this radio was terrible. I couldn't pick up any DAB stations and only just managed 1 FM station.

From my experience with this radio I'd stay well clear (sorry edi)

Beware - my parents have a PURE dab radio and this Matsui is somehow out of phase with the PURE, meaning you get an echo effect with more than 1 DAB radio tuned to the same station.

You get what you pay for.

I voted Hot, the reason being DAB is in a class of it's own and to get one for this price can only be good surely. If it doesn't work you have a year to take it back due to it being electronics.

I would go for the PURE DAB radio myself.

.....

Matsui.... I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole...:-(

There are far better offers out there...

This is not the cheapest DAB radio out there! Netto have one for £19.99.

Ok, were is the best place to get a Pure DAB radio then?

Comet had Pure DAB radio's on offer last week when I went in there.

They had them in all colours too......

The pink one was revolting! Have a search on google etc for Pure DAB and you might find a bargain, just remember to tell us!

Hi Currys are doing refurb pure evoke xt radio for £49.99 + postage, the one I ordered looked unused in original packaging (item number 523879 at currys)

Why would you want to do that though?

Do you often have two stereos playing the same CD? Listen to two TVs at the same time?

I'd persoanlly try to get one with a USB port (like the Pure has) so that any upgrades can be done in the future. In years to come it will all change with DAB and you could be left with a paperweight otherwise.

That said for 30 spots if you get 5 years out of it fair play - what a terrible disposable world we all live in eh?

I sometimes listen to my DAB in my room with my sister listening to hers in her room and my mum always has hers on when cooking downstairs in the kitchen so if you have one in a room nearby loud enough to hear it could become annoying! Like watching TV in one room with the next room watching the same channel but on sky!

Winchy

Does your family not like being in the same room as each other??;-)

Different makes of DAB radios use different decoders some of which are slower than others. The Pure ones are quite slow and in my experience the BBC time signal is more than a second behind the FM one. I recently bought a combined MagicBox dab radio and phone and the decoder is very good - there's hardly any lag behind the FM equivalent (we often have radios on in separate rooms and in the hallway you can compare the signals!) Pity the rest of the MagicBox kit is rubbish.

As mooted elsewhere in this thread a new digital-radio standard is emerging which will supplant DAB and therefore many current models will be obsolete in a few years. Even a USB port will not necessarily help as a simple firmware upgrade will not always be enough to enable reception of the new signal (sorry I can't remember the tech name for it.) Here the UK is paying for its early adoption of DAB - or rather, the punters are, since we're the ones who will have to go out and buy new radios.

Matsui as we all know is Dixons/Currys own brand, given a 'Japanese-sounding' name to impress the punters. Chances are it won't last long enough to become obsolete! If you're happy to buy a piece of kit in the knowledge that three months from now you might well have to schlep it back to the shop and pester some twelve year old Currys droid to swap it out, go ahead and buy it. Personally I'd pass.

....save up for a Pure.......! ;-)
Pure and simple - parents and in-laws love their DAB...!
Does what it says........

Decent price for this Thanks edi!

I bought this a year ago for £35 from Currys - so not such a bargain.

It was a replacement for the lower model which was faulty but has worked fine ever since and is still being regularly used.

Two things wrong with it are: it is powered by a cord so not very portable and no 'off' switch to kill the power so its display light is on all the time.

Otherwise faultless for Radio 5 Live football listening!

Good price, nice spot edi

thanks for this, a good find.

Don't bother with this, spend a bit more and get a Pure or a Fergi.
