Mature British Cheddar 400g £1.79 Aldi

Posted 12th Dec 2018Local
At the time of year when supermarkets are ramping up cheese prices Aldi have reduced the price of 400g from £1.89 to £1.79. This comes out at £4.48 per kg as far as I'm concerned mature Cheddar below £5.00 per kg is a good deal. Very tasty and
produced at the award winning Lockerbie Creamery in Scotland.

460g for £2.30
Hang on this is just the regular price. In fact theyve ramped the prices up by more than inflation several times this year.

Heres an example . 10 pack of large eggs were 79p begining of the year then they put them up to 99p. Thats a 25% jump in 6 months FFS.

Reduced by £0.10 and as I said in the write up any price below £5.00 per kg is a good deal. There's been deals posted on here recently for Cheddar at Lidl £5.43 per kg and Morrisons £5.71 /kg. What's the price of eggs got to do with it the ramp up was probably when they stopped selling Dutch Free Range Lysteria grade. What do you consider a good price for mature cheddar ?

I think some people (myself included) think regardless of whether an item is reduced if it's a good product at a good price it's worth posting (incase there are people out there that may be unaware of the product and may like to try it)
Home bargains do vintage wyke farms cheddar for £1.89 for 320g or cathedral city vintage 300g for £1.99.. Yeah it's less but far better cheese
Any deal with cheese is a good deal

Some people I know get confused between Lidl and Aldi. I truly don't know how, one is yellow the other is blue

Yep, I’m sure this was £1.59 earlier in the year
This cheese goes really well with red wine from Aldi also.
The aldi extra-mature is better than cathedral city & Wyke imo
Cracking price for a lovely cheese.
Ben Gunn would be over the moon

Asda sells various Cathedral City 350g (currently at £2.00 online and in my local store on Merseyside)... I have seen the Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage at 2.00 each but certainly willing to try the Aldi to compare... We have Aldi, Asda, B+M, Home Bargains and Lidl all locally so I should look on HUKD more often for specific bargains! Thanks for the tip about Wyke Farms cheddar. Have seen that in one of the supermarkets but cannot remember which this minute... seems a good price at HB.

You're welcome .. Have you tried the red fox vintage Red Leicester from aldi ? It's more pricy at about £1.59 for 200g .. But it's seriously nice .
Also aldi special Gorgonzola picante is really nice also .
Not tried the Red Leicester, but will do - thanks.

Not especially interested in the Gorgonzola but no doubt someone else will find it tasty.
