...and for anyone voting cold, let us know about a better deal, please.

Better deal here
Search eBay for 261984780593
10 Maxell CR2032 for 99p.

The price is good but the product is dodgy - put third one to my car key since New Year...

I have been using the Eunicell branded batteries for the same sort of prices and find them OK.

Thanks for that, I'll make the link clickable: ebay.co.uk/itm…593
Also, I wouldn't be able to post it as due to HUKD rules the product needs to be sold about 1000 times, apparently. oO

I'm quite happy with Maxell. Usually hold in my car key for couple of years.

But how do you know they're genuine?

They don't appear to be would be the simple answer. I received a 5 pack today. One leaking/tarnished wasn't too encouraging. Reading the warnings on the back of the packaging, there's an error on every line of the English version.

So either Hitachi Maxell are slipping, or these are FAKE! Interesting to hear what Mr bargainbusting has to say.

Update: Just in from Maxell customer services
"Thank you for your email. Our CR2032 batteries have a 5 year life so at the moment the longest expiry date would be Aug-2020, so it would appear not to have been packaged by Maxell.
The battery itself has two digit code on the side. Please could you send a photo of the packaging and also one of the battery. Please be very careful when handling any leaking batteries, please use gloves."

So these are definitely FAKE. Next stop ebay.

Non of mine was leaking but please keep us up to date with the case. If somebody say it's genuine it should be. If eBay won't stop them to sell fakes they are breaking the law.
I'll expiry this deal but will keep close eye on it. And thanks for letting us know.

As above, Maxell have confirmed these batteries are NOT genuine. If you look at the back of the package, there is a list of warnings. The obvious errors are 1. "confiming", 2. "of", 3. "adark", 4. "not"
Also, no two digit code and the expiry is way off.
Reported to ebay (who'll do nothing) and waiting for a response from the seller.

Response from seller
"Accept our sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations! These batteries come directly from maxell distribution and we have sold over 10,000 of these batteries. We are sending you prepaid return envelope for the item to be returned back to us for full refund. Please allow 2-4 working days for the envelope to arrive.
Many thanks for your understanding!
best wishes"

So once I establish where he's based, I'll pass on the details to Trading Standards.

They have to! Or am I missing something?

This seller is still selling these, infact over 10,000, and as someone who had the pleasure, or should I say honour to have worked with Mr Yamaguichi at Maxell in the 80s, I can say having ordered some to test that they are most definitely fakes, infact most Maxell CR2032 on eBay are.
It's actually pretty easy to tell...
Firstly the price, although not always an indication, selling 5 for a £1, when you'd expect to pay more than that for 1.
There is a single plastic bubble cover over all 5 batteries covering only the battery itself even though it's a perforated blister strip.
Lots of spelling errors & Chinglish!
Stupidly long expiry date, 2024 ...really?
No digit code stamped on side of battery cell
and lastly something you can't see, they'll be Alkaline at best, not lithium.
It's hard to believe that it's worth faking batteries like this, but then CR2032's are used in lots of devices from remote controls to PC motherboards ...and my collection of Dreamcast VMU's!
