Maxi Cosi: Car seat swap service Helping you after an accident

Found 4th Nov 2015
We value and support our customers, and we understand that having a car accident and dealing with its aftermath can be incredibly stressful. That’s why we came up with our Car Seat Swap Service. If your child car seat has been in an accident, you can’t be sure that it’s still safe. Even if you can’t see any damage, it may not function properly.

We can take the Maxi-Cosi car seat that has been in the accident and replace it with a brand new one, so you can be confident that your child is safe. And we can get valuable information about how our car seats perform in collisions.

I thought it would have to be a deal as you have to buy the car seat first.

Don't think they've really thought this through. When you've finished with your car seat just send it back claiming it's been in an accident. Get a brand new one to stick on ebay. Not advocating it just pointing out the likely abuse this will receive.

I agree, I assume there must be some kind of validation involved etc, otherwise definitely could be abused.

Anyone else think this was going to be for a seat swap after a different sort of accident?

It will be a proof of purchase no doubt.

Won't the Insurance will replace it anyway as part of a claim? I know people who have been in accidents and have had seats replaced.

I know they say they can replace it with a brand new one, but it doesn't actually say that it's free of charge?

car insurance = replacement car seat. I dare say they must claim back the cost for the seat....otherwise very out of pocket. Good that maxi cosi has highlighted the fact that the seats should be replaced after an accident!

. yeah right they've not thought this through. ... they will obviously get a signed disclaimer/waiver and claim the money back from the insurance company
.. there will obviously be checks - they will have thought it through ----trust me

They are a great company to deal with, our daughter had hip dysplasia, needed a spica cast (waist to ankle in cast) for 12 weeks then a brace for 6 weeks. We had a cabriofix carseat but obviously with the cast / brace on she wouldn't have fitted, after some research I foudn that Maxi-Cosi have a "healthy Hip Program" and they supply a car seat built with specifically for children in a cast for a deposit only fee, so basically free. They deliver to your door and pick up when your finished, provided there is no damage you get a full refund, great company and great service.

I had a car accident in February , still not settled, had to buy a new car seat , still not been paid out my insurer, what are the chances of maxi Cosi reimbursing me ?

The worrying thing for me is they want to know how their seats perform in an accident.
Are these sort of things not tested ?

Nothing. They will only swap a broken one for a working one.

Probably slim but still worth a try.

Of course they are, but on a smaller scale and in controlled collisions. More information is never a bad thing.

I have the old car seat. And the recipets for the new one etc . Thanks for posting OP. I've filled in the form.

Close to no chance. they are unlikely to want to pay all the retail markup costs that occur getting the item into your hands. If you still have the failed seat you could claim on that and sell the replacement on eBay.

They can tell if it's been in a accident by using a blue light for hairline fractures in the polystyrene of the seat.

bike helmet manufacturers do this too

this is good but dont most insurance companies cover car seats ?

When my car was rear ended we replaced both car seats on the 3rd party's insurance that ran into us. One of them did actually break on the side but not too badly. The cynical side of me is unsure whether Maxi Cosy are doing a good public service here or just making more money out of the insurers?

yes but they want the seats involved in real collisions to test them.

All sounds good but insurance companies normally replace the seats so maxi cosi never actually have to replace them for you. I contacted them after my accident and they were next to useless!
