Maxi cosi FREE car seat replacement

Refreshed 2nd Jan (Posted 5th Aug 2018)
Not sure if this will benefit anyone one here. I was in a car accident last week (ambulance crashed into me) I have not long bought 2 new Maxi- Cosi car seats that cost over £300. I phoned Maxi Cosi for advise and they explained that they have a scheme called 'Accident Swap Service'. They are collecting my 2 seats and replacing them with new ones. A massive help and saving me another £300+. Thank you Maxi-Cosi!

Thanks for sharing this, it's a great service and lots certainly aren't aware of it. I've added a link for more info on this. Some key info from the site below too - Sorry to hear of your accident, glad you're okay!

Which car seats can we advise on?

This service is available for all Maxi-Cosi car seats involved in an accident. Our Customer Care team, through your feedback, will determine if a replacement is needed.

What information will we need to help decide whether your car seat needs to be replaced?

We will first ask you to tell us about the circumstances of your accident; speed, other vehicles involved, direction of impact etc. We will also ask you to supply photograph’s of the damage to your car. If your car seat needs to be replaced directly via Maxi Cosi, we will then need some additional information from you:

  • your completed insurance claim form and/or the police report
  • a completed Maxi-Cosi accident form, which we will send you
  • the car seat from the accident
What will you get in return?

You’ll receive:

  • a brand new car seat, similar to the one in the accident, sent as quickly as possible so your child can travel safely
  • free collection and delivery service
How do you apply?

No actually. I was in one lane and the ambulance was doing 70mph and skid on surface water into my car.

I did try but they said contents are not covered. Always have been in the past
It’s a bit ironic that it was an ambulance that crashed into you yet they won’t replace the seats in your car that are required to keep them safe from injury!
This has got to be one of the best posts I have seen, glad your all ok and thank you for posting
I was not aware of this and this is an extremely good service, currently looking for a new seat and this is a big tick in the box for narrowing my choice down
Direct line car insurance in the event of an accident, fire or theft cover the cost of a replacement child car seat - even if there is no apparent damage. They just need to have a copy of the receipt of the seat

I could see that if your fault but not when claiming from others. Ah well all exchanged and safe and well which is the main thing.
Sounds like they will be claiming off either one of the insurance companies, seeing as they are wanting a completed claim form.

Any decent fully comprehensive insurer will cover the costs of new car seats, no matter the speed of impact, on production of a purchase receipt.

Car seats are not classed as 'contents' but under a separate element all together, so it sounds like the "insurer" is trying to dodge a bullet. It may be a case that they self insure up to a certain amount and anything over the limit gets passed to their insurers. I know most government agencies do this.

lol, yeah, it's impossible that a vehicle collides with another if said vehicle is an emergency one- one that moves faster than average.

Anyway Yvette, good find, and I hope you and all the other passengers have recovered from the shock and the impact.
If in a situation where a 3rd party has caused you ANY financial, provable loss and fault by them is provable or accepted you can claim on their liability insurance for any reasonable costs. Maxi Cosi will be claiming from the ambulance. You could claim for injuries, a broken iphone, missing a concert or such if not your fault and the accident caused the loss.

Ambulances have a duty to stay safe even during blue light runs. I know this because my father is a paramedic who regularly with his advanced driving license has to cut through the traffic or cars etc in the way. Not judging the ambulance or person who was driven I to but to be rear ended suggests the ambulance was not driving in a safe manner.

Glad everyone is fine but also remember blue lights and sirens doesn't mean move outta the way either but they are there to let people know they are near them to warn them.

Paramedics are human too. Human error while driving can happen whether driving a family car, police car, ambulance, f1 car, motorbike, helicopter, hovercraft..... the driver can always be at fault.

And maybe OP was in the wrong place at the wrong time but one thing that is clear - you were not there.

You don't have to move out of the way for an ambulance so ambulance would still be in the wrong.

You need to go to troll school you are meant to finesse a reaction not come in like a wrecking ball.
Really is a good offer even if they claim the costs it's easier than you doing it

I think that is why maximas cosious want to get the seat and details of accident to that they can submit an expert opinion claim to the third party’s insurer.

Even if your bizarre hypothesis was correct, you do realise that they do not have the legal right to ram someone if they don't 'get out of the way'. They have the same requirements as everyone else, to maintain a safe braking distance. If they fail to maintain this and an incident occurs as a result of this, they are at fault.
If the company is eating the cost of replacement car seat's like that then that's some damn good customer service. I for one wouldn't have known this was a thing either, so thank you for the heads up.

You were there? No, didn’t think so...
In any case, given the photos suggest a rear end accident, it would likely be found as the ambulance drivers fault. Whilst everyone should move aside for an ambulance, if you don’t that doesn’t give the ambulance carte blanche to ram vehicles out of the way. I’m certainly not suggesting this was the case here, I’ve got the utmost respect for all our emergency services, but accidents do happen, particularly when people are doing their best to balance risk of driving quickly with the risk of arriving late to a medical emergency.

Thanks for the heads up OP, you should be able to claim for replacements via insurance but it’s very useful to know there’re alternatives. In addition, I’d guess Maxi cosi’s motives are to further their research into improving crash safety by receiving real world crash samples - something worth supporting too.

Ambulances are immune to crashing into cars...that’s a good one...maybe we should roll out the force fields they use to all other vehicles...jog on
