These saved me and my family/friends so much money. Heat added

Great deal if you don't have a smartphone. Hot from me.

Otherwise, get an app called Torque and get a bluetooth one off ebay for about £8.

Good price. paid £12.99 on ebay about 1 month ago.

How good are these things? I have heard mixed reviews about them.

They don't always tell you exactly what is wrong with the car, because the whole closed-loop engine-management system can compensate for faults and misreport what the actual cause is, however as a starting point they are great.

For example, recently my car developed a sudden misfire, so I used one of these that told me that I had a misfire in cylinder #2. 5 minutes later, I had the plugs and lead off to find a badly frayed ignition lead. Swapped it out and all was well.

So certain things it's really good at. For other errors to be really useful, you may have to know a bit about engines to make much use of the info. If nothing else, it's good for clearing error codes at the last minute when you want to sell your car on!!! It's also good to check on prospective new purchases because it can tell you stored errors.

Overall for this price, it's a no brainer.

That's a yes

So it won't work on a 1979 model then.

Yep, get yer ABS fixed!

Seriously though, cheap diagnostic tools don't interface with the ABS part of the engine management. Be prepared to pay closer to a ton for one of those.

But you know...get your ABS fixed.

ABS light is MOT failure for a reason, best get that fixed

ABS fault often a wheel sensor/connection, take them out of the hub one at a time and check connections could save you plenty wonga

I'll get one. Is it worth spending a fiver extra for the next model up?

This doesn't work on a Vauxhall Vectra "00 X Reg, but does work on a Ford Mondeo "00 W Reg. But still a good piece of gadget!!!

Bought the upgrade one for £15. Great reviews. Thanks.

Either stick a black sticker over it, or take the dash panel off and pop the LED.

Or get it fixed.

Actually. Just get it fixed

Heat added - bought one of these when they were cheap last time. Saved a few quid clearing the engine management light on an old Nissan quite a few times now!

I have used this site before, they have a good selection of reset tools etc... bavariandominator.co.uk/

light has to come on at part start up sequence along with the other dash lights then turn off so taping over it/removing bulb is no longer passable at MOT

Has to be an Opel diagnostic reader.

Opcom for the Vauxhall, plug it into a laptop and away you go, can be had off ebay for under 20 quid.

I wont mind this model but i read item is shipped from china does this mean i have to pay import tax??

I don't think so I think it comes under the threshold

buy a smart phone instead

When I saw the title I read "Mexican" at first, and wondered if the diagnostic codes were in Spanish, no me gusta.
