Basically all it means is USB2 is quicker and if you don't have it you could pick a card up for pretty cheap and is well worth it
USB2 = 480 Mbs Sec Max data transfer rate
Although these are not the transfer rates your actually get.
Very nice deal, just forked out 150 odd for a 160GB laptop hard drive but I'm tempted to pick this one up.
John
This kind of setup is perfect for simple regular backups for someone using a laptop like john, or for storing photos.
Another point is the 16MB cache that the drive uses means it will find and transfer data more quickly.
the only downside i can see with this is the tight fitting construction of the drive case may let the drive get too hot. and the hotter your hard drive gets - the shorter it's life will be. (the voice of experience)
That's correct - these are maximum transfer speeds. Actual speed will depend on any other tasks the computer is doing at the time.
dabs have the same drive for £82.23.
They also have some nice Western Digital drives for good prices eg 320Gb for £95. The advantage of those, for me and my Mac, is that they have Firewire connections - 400Mb/s sustained transfer rate.
HTH
Thanks for the info though Nickygoat and welcome here! I agree with you on the Firewire bit, I bought a 320GB USB2 drive and it takes me forever to backup to it compared to an old Firewire drive I had.
Seem to drop down in price quite steadily.
