Without triggering a political argument here, does Brexit & the slump in the pound have anything to do with the recently increasing HDD prices?

Undoubtedly. But there's also a shortage of SSD components atm.

Undoubtedly? These were £139.99 in April 2016 on Amazon, 2 months before the vote. The lowest they have ever been on Amazon is £103.22. At £110.97 it's £5.15 lower than it's yearly average of £116.12.

No its a worldwide thing. I don't think the Low exchange rate is affecting prices yet but will do eventually so long term likely to get more expensive, at least compared to the US and Europe

Will this thingiemabob work with my trust mac?
if so must be worth a punt to store movie clips on.

I also had a look at the internal drives and they are very expensive.

Maxtor? Did they disappear years ago?

Heat anyway OP X)

I got one of these. Stored all my wedding and honeymoon photos on it and it failed after 6 months. I never checked online forums before buying but wish I did. Check for m3 HDD not recognised or refusing to read. just a heads up for everyone. you may be lucky though.

That's because most of the stock for them is shipped from here

That can happen to any & all hard drives that's why you're supposed to keep valuable stuff in several places at once, these portable drives are especially vulnerable

You might be confusing it with 3.5" which i not portable.
Old deal could in many cases still be seen. Mind to tell where did you get it from, any link ??

They got bought by Seagate. There's really only 2x mechanical hard drive manufacturers now, Seagate and WD and they own the smaller brands which they use to propagate the market with the appearance of variety.

Don't know all the ins and outs but from what I understand exchange rates are known to fluctuate. For purposes of stability rates are agreed over a period of time. It would not be unreasonable to assume that these are reviewed over time. At some point our exchange rates will have to be reviewed (if they haven't done so already) and inevitably will not go in our favor. Of course if you are buying direct from the far east it stands to reason what you pay will depend on the exchange rate of the day
