I've had a maxtor for the last three years in daily use and I haven't encountered the problems other ppl had. I find 2x500gb better than 1x1tb, but you could get a 1.5tb for little more than £70. Good price, though and hot from me on this one (might order another one)

Good deal

Great price.
These do not have an off switch, and they don't power down after a period of inactivity either.

Smoking hot.... the 250gb 2.5" drives in Sainsburys were / are hot but this is smoking.

Not a bad price if u only want 500gb, i have the 500 maxtor and ill be honest its slowwww compared to the 1.5tb sammy

Agreed... my 1tb i got from maplin doesnt.

I picked up a couple of these when they were £19.99 in Sainsbury's earlier this year, both have performed solidly so far.

Scorching deal! Fantastic find!

... Scorchio :-D

I remember these got sooo hot when they were £20 at sainsburys a couple of months back.

bought this when it was £39.99 a few o r more weeks ago haven't tried it out yet... only get to open it on Christmas Day

How on earth is this a hot deal guys? This is a 3.5" desktop external @ £35. Amazon are doing twice the size, 1tb for under £60 including free delivery.

Mine does.... It doesn't power up until the usb is plugged it, if the usb is unplugged it powers down. Also powers down after about 15mins of inactivity.

Same as the one on sale here 500gb maxtor basics.

+1, if it were a USB powered 2.5" I'd say hot, this just the norm.

Hotter than a Baked Hot potato thats just came out of a steaming Hot oven onto a Hot plate........

Why are some saying this isn't hot? Can you post links to similar deals at this price please?

You pay for the enclosure thats why...

£25 for the drive and £10 for the enclosure = £35

£50 for a 1tb drive and £10 for the enclosure = £60

It also for what people need, I could buy twice as good graphics card for £200 or just get one for £100

If I only need an extra 500gb I only buy an extra 500gb, not 1tb cos I get more GB for my £

I picked up a 2nd hand for 42 pounds last month.
The hardrive is OK.
feels kind of cheap and is missing a switch.

The amazon Seagate 1tb doesn't work with Macs straight out the box also some people may only want a 500gb! cheers OP, ordered to go with my WD media player

I agree

Great Deal Merb can't beat although i know one person whos trying desperately

I got one a few months ago from sainsburys at £19 and although I only use it for backing up once a week at the most it does the job.
Hot deal.

Good for PS3 adopters this Christmas, buy this, dismantle the drive casing (very easy) and whack it in your new slim PS3!

Job done.

Edit: I'm a stupid ******, i just realised that this is 3.5" and not 2.5"

FML

Good deal for people who don't need 1gb and don't want to spend an extra 70%!

Will this one work with a Wii ?

Sounds good!

"Will this one work with a Wii ?"

Not sure but this one does

The compatibility list is here:

]http//wi…ist

Actually after looking at the list can confirm it does work but you need to use Maxtor Manager utility to turn off auto spindown after 15 minutes.

Got one of these (at a higher price of course) - works a treat, no problems

Another external power supply to add the to 10,000 plugs I already have hidding away behind the PC!

I left mine on overnight, and it was still on in the morning.
I will see if it powers down without the USB,
