Lowest regular price on Amazon (excluding flash sales)

I know we have purchased at prices lower than this in the past (Very deal - that offered additional discount for new members)

I currently use a nearly-full 2 TB My Passport Ultra as backup and I would like to purchase a 4 TB disk. The only time I suffered external HD failure it was a Seagate so I'm just wondering if there have been any reliability concerns with this model?

So this is a deal then.

this Western Digital 4TB was £99.99 all last week:

currently £119.99 but I would guess that it will go back to <£100 over Black Friday week/day

That one is aimed at Windows and Macbook users. It comes with some sort of encryption mechanism built in. I am not sure if it would play nice if someone wanted to use them as LUKS encrypted ext4 drives.

I am using the Maxtor M3 as a backup drive on Linux

Passionate arguments over which brand is better can be seen on these forums Most mainstream brands are pretty much very close to each other for average retail use.

The drive inside is a Samsung which make excellent 2.5" drives (Seagate acquired Samsung's mobile hard drive manufacturing and this is the old model before they started botching the drives) however this 4TB version is very slow and if you don't need the space you may prefer the 2TB which is a great performer and is more flexible in that it is standard height so can be put inside a PS4 or laptop.

Thanks for the various comments, I think I'll wait and see if the WD does appear at below a hundred.
