Neat little portable 4TB back up. USB2 or USB3 powered.
Very happy with my M3 that cost me £105 a couple of months ago.
Bought a re-certified 4TB WD My Passport Ultra as back up to the M3 back up.
Very happy with that also.
£ 99.96 now. (Monday 17/10/02)
OOS so expired. (Thursday 17/10/05)

Hmm never heard of this make?

Amazing...

They were making hard disks before I'd even seen a computer.

Buy another M3 as back up to your WD Passport, just to be on the safe side.

True, dat..
WIKI
"Maxtor was an American computer hard disk drive manufacturer. Founded in 1982, it was the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world before being purchased by Seagate in 2006."
4tb portable... good that it doesnt require a power adapter at this size

First portable drive I bought . 60 gb
I think these contain a standard Seagate ST4000LM016 SATA drive inside. Can anyone confirm as I am looking for a good shuck.
Maxtor? Are Seagate bringing the name back from the dead?
Very good price. Ordered one, hope it lasts. Apparently 3 years warranty as well
Maybe a stupid question, can these portable hd be connected to a smartphone?
very good price for external brand new 4tb hard drive. Concerned about the drive being Seagate though.
Is this suitable to be plugged into a PS4 for external storage?

Usb2 ports will not supply enuff juice.....
USb3 powered .. SOmething like this with many platters will require the full amount of USB3 juice . so might find out a few , less than perfect USB3 ports.
So, almost certainly not, powered by the phone BUT if you can find usb3 powered hub, possibly.
Doesnt say how much voltage it actually requires ??
is there any android 4k media player can play content off this hard drive?

oooh. Might get one for my PS4. (almost filled the 2TB internal drive AND the 2TB external drive...)

I have an old 80GB Maxtor USB2 drive, which has TWO USB leads - one for power and the second for power and data.
Both need to be connected for it to work. As I (still) don't have USB3, am I correct in thinking this USB3 drive won't work as it has only one lead?
Edit: image on Ebuyer seems to show two USB ports. The Buffalo 1TB USB3 MiniStation image on the same page shows TWO USB leads, so now I'm confused...

This only has one cable , it will be backward compatible , so will work if you only have usb2 (Get a usb3 card it will not cost much)

Yes, if you're talking about 4k media boxes that connect to the TV, lots of them accept USB drives and will play content from NFS/FAT32 drives.

After some google search, found out that there is a cable that converts a usb3 to two usb2 connectors, one for power, one for data. I assume one connects to the OTG cable and the other on a power bank...?? I just want to be able to back up memory cards while I'm travelling, without having a laptop.

Just ran a backup on my old Acer 521 to the M3 Maxtor using USB2 connection. Much slower than if it had been USB3 but it completed successfully.

Yes the ST4000LM016 (AKA Spinpoint M10P) 5 x 800GB platters. Very slow performer, go 3.5" if you can and you'll get one or two extra TB at similar price.

ISC .. I was assuming that this is a multiplatter drive powered entirely from the usb port and would therefore require more than the max provided by usb2.0 500ma. You may have a more modern usb2 port that allows much higher current draw eg for charging, so some(modern) usb2 ports may work, but they will be quite slow

As well as my old USB2 only Acer 521, this Maxtor M3 also works on my USB2 only Lenovo ThinkPad; the speed is governed by USB2 max speed which is much slower than the USB3 on my Lenovo 521S
Now £99.96
