Great 2-seater fun car. It may be a basic model but with the roof down, heater on, who needs much more. Artic White only at this price - other colours available but you pay an extra £550. Good reviews (topgear.com/car…300) and far cheaper than the £280 per month they quote for the next model up. 3year, 8,000 miles pa

Do you get to keep the car?

yes of course... for three years, even in the night time.

You really didn’t pass a M5 m8, one of the fastest cars on the road.

/facepalm I give up!

I will will try and explain it to you. Quoted poster said he passed an MX5 and he said he thought they were faster. I said I passed an M5 and I thought they were supposed to be a lot faster.

Unless the pair of us were on a race track then both statements are totally pointless as speeds are limited by speed limits or the willingness to exceed them and how quickly the driver likes to accelerate.

I passed an M5 the other day in my Qashqai, I thought they were a lot faster.
I love a lease deal, but you can pick up an MX5 in very good nick for around £1,500-£2,000 so there's no need to lease one. I got this one for £1,600 a few years ago. I have since sold it, but they're so much fun to drive.

Any hate for this car is solely from people who haven't driven one.

It's not the quickest but in terms of bang for buck/smiles per mile you'd be hard pushed to do better. It's not about how fast it can go in a straight line, it's about how sideways you can get!

Will vote hot for the deal but I would never lease one of these... I'd never want to give it back!

I’m looking for a stylish car on a budget. Is there anything Under 1k that you would recommend?

It doesn't matter if it's 10 or 15 years old. If anything the older the MX-5 the better.

For under a grand you would be hard pushed to get anything decent. Best off raising another £500 and you'll have a few more options.

They all have their different strengths imho...

MK1: the original and popup headlights
MK2: A sharper more refined version of the original
MK3: Slightly flabbier but still 50:50weight distribution and a far nicer place to sit ... I had the 1.8 and she was a peach... Maybe not as sharp as the MK2 but really usable as a day to day car
MK4: (Relatively) more efficient skyactiv engine and a far lighter car (I think it's comparable to the MK1 in this regard)...

That's the same colour as my mums one!

Good fun cars, bit like my own old "hairdresser car"... MR2 turbo ..

Was for the bants. Every lease thread needs that comment.
Mx5"s are great fun cars (owned one for >15 yrs) but not the fastest acceleration wise. The equivalent fiat convertible uses a turbo so has better mid range.

With the comment on night time I thought you meant was for the bat's...
Love the look of the little MX5s, not very fast but good for hooning around roundabouts and trips into the country. Only problem is they are so small and low, if you're of adult size you sort of just fall in and out of them - and if you've never taken a good look at your knees, you soon will.

I'd love to buy one but I think they are impractical if you're even modestly tall, I'd also like to see one with a larger engine (or eletric!)
Got one of these on the two year Mazda Loughborough deal for £4.5k last year from here.
Pros would be
Excellent handling
Good for parking due to size
Engine revs to 7.k RPM

Cons
Noisy at high speed
No creature comforts. No usb no sat nav no cruise control. But has air conditioning.

Unfortunately I've not really been able to drive it fast on country roads as it's design. With 90% motorway driving here is my cost stats.

Got the other half one of these last time around this price, great car despite the crap spec (no Bluetooth, dab or cruise) but a great handling fun car that raises a smile whenever I get chucked the keys.

Yes it's not massively fast, and in all honesty feels like I'm driving in slo motion when I floor it (my toy is a 600bhp TVR so most things feel slow) but that's not what it's designed for, simple rwd fun which is great to chuck around the country lanes.

For this price it was cheaper than a Nissan micra for christ sake, I know which one I'd prefer!!

Depends what you class as tall, my other half is 5'11 and fits fine, as for getting in an out, yes it takes a knack and it's not always elegant, especially if you park next to a kerb, but if you want the handling you need to be low
