Sophos Home. £0.00 Many others available.

Adguard. £0.00 Many others available. uBlock Origin is very popular.

Malwarebytes. Untick free trial of premium during installation. £0.00

I use these programs, not had any issues. Not saying they're the best, but I'm happy with them. I particularly like Sophos, it never bothers you, so is great to install on computers/laptops that belong to family/friends that are clueless.

McAfee, in my experience, is effectively malware. Possibly not as bad as it used to be (see comment below).

McAfee 2017 is totally different to their old versions. very lite on resources and have very good reviews. however make sure to do a restart once you installed and after that do a full system scan. after that restart and you will not notice it.

Just had a customer bring in their laptop, protected by McAfee, complaining of slowness. Took nearly 2 hours to install Malwarebytes, then 6 hours to run it. Found 1800 malware items. Uninstalled McAfee, installed free Avast, removed the last 20 viruses, customer happy. This is quite common these days, don't waste your money on paid AV that is sub-standard.

Thanks I'll give that a try on ours

you may as well put a condom on your head, cos that will be as effective.

There appears to be a desperate effort to sell this dubious product. Its only days since it was last on here and it went cold then the general comment being "I wouldn't buy it if it was free". I will second that.

This may actually work. Once suffocated you won't download or run any malicious software.
