Bought this from Wickes last week at £127. Great bargain I thought as the nearest I could find was around £140 + delivery. My store isnt too far so ordered in store.
Received it yesterday but it was the newer M46-500CD similar spec but adds a deck wash. Quick look on the net reveled around £190+. Argos have it at £224.99 according to their new catalogue (707 0772). Check them out for a pic.
Wickes have now dropped it down to £99.97 and the store honored the difference I paid.
Wickes website say no stock but my local store can order it in for you. Give your local store a ring.
Hope this helps someone who is looking for a mower for the new season.

Is it a Flymo?

Anyone got one of these? How often does it need oiling? How long until you needed to replace or sharpen the blade?

All Briggs and Stratton mower engines I've had over the years just need a small top up in the oil reservoir at the start of the mowing season. I have the equivalent of three tennis courts worth of lawn. There is a lot of plastic in mine, and I've never needed oil anywhere else on it.

That's a 'how long is a piece of string' question. Depends on how often you use it, how much you mow, what sort of conditions, if you pick up a lot of stones or other debris, tough weeds etc.
My pure grass mcCulloch mowing has had one blade sharpening in 4 years. I reckon it will need another this spring.

Thanks for replying, now to just hmmm and ahh and procrastinate over getting one

great deal,will have a look

these mowers are'nt for lawn enthusiasts;-)

well to put in in rospective ive just bought one from e-bay for £56 , this one isnt self propelled, has a 16" blade and is second hand , plus couple with the fact that it cost about £20 to pick up, this offer is a bargain !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks....thats my Dads birthday pressie sorted............hopefully! H&R added!

What does 'self propelled' mean, is like one of them robot vacuum cleaners?

Reckon I'll be able to tow myself on a skateboard with this to nip to the petrol station and top up? If so what would happen if I got pulled up by the law?

Seriously hot deal, good mower at a great price.

Self propelled means it has powered wheels, you don't have to push it, just hold the lever down and steer it.

I was told they were expecting some towards then end of the week, and would ring me when (if?) they get them.

Suprised to get a call back to say they just arrived. Not as suprised as their customer service people who thought they didn't sell lawnmowers.

Like the OP mine is the 46-500CD model. Whats the difference, I don't know what a wash deck is?

Also please be aware they come with no oil, and no SKU on the box. If you remember 194470 it will help speed your puchase.

Best bargain of the year for me so far, Cheers OP.

Thanks Lorian,

What store have you ordered from?

Original Poster

Deck wash is a facility that you can connect your hosepipe to the machine. Run it for a little while and it cleans the blade and all the gunk underneath. Dont think the 46SD had that.

BTW - Got mine from Milton Keynes and as Lorian says, quote the Wickes part number rather than the description.

Dont forget to add oil as mine did not come with any either.

Thanks OP. CS tracked one down for me. Collected this morning!

What colour is the deck, I put mine straight in the shed in the box without opening, is it yellow, silver or black? Not that it really matters!

Got some cheap fully synth 5w30 from unipart/partco, half the price of halfords.

Thanks

Ordered one today for a friend who has a pretty big garden, and has been struggling with a Hovermower.

I went to Stirling Wickes today and quoted product code 194470, I was told that they had 4 of the 46 SD models in stock.

I was charged £99.97, which I was happy with, I asked about the £15 off a £100 spend, and was told that this offer ended at the end of January, and that there was no way that anyone should have qualified for it this month as the computer system wouldn't allow it.

The only mention that I have found of a £15 off a £100 spend is from a store in Coventry...
mercia.co.uk/Art…e=1 Valid until 28/2/09.

Anyhow, I'm happy with mine and there are 3 remaining in the Stirling store today, hope this helps someone.

I guess its possible every store got 4 of them. That was certainly what turned up at my store. I was tempted to buy another for spares lol.

Good tip. Did that yesterday and got one today. Model supplied is M46-500CD.

Rang sales - none in stock, I'll check - 90mins later - yes found one for next week. 30 mins later it will be there tomorrow. Good support from the sales number.

Keith

Upon closer inspection I also have been supplied with Model M46-500CD, fantastic bargain considering Argos are asking £224.

A big thank you goes to the original poster, just waiting for the snow to melt and the grass to dry and grow.

order mine in norwich store last week when collecting the portable decking - another great posting!
expected to get a phone call to say the mower offer had been discontinued,
but they rung week to so say ready in store to collect
just opened box and it is the 46-500cd model as well
bless hotdeals!

Unboxed and set it up this morning. It looks nice

Two small tips on assembly; the shorter bolts go at the bottom of the handle, and it comes with the sparkplug unplugged.

Anyone know where the black plastic bungs go, I couldn't find a home for them :?:

Two disappointments, no choke or throttle controls!

The choke had been very "nastily" set in one position by its arm being bent agains the body. Straightened it by hand, and voila, a fully working choke. Not sure if this was by design or it had taken a whack.

The throttle is a different matter though, I'm used to a old honda with a variable throttle. The new one "walks" just a bit slow for me, so I want to increase the (quite leisurely) engine revs a little, but I'll be blowed if I can see a throttle lever on the engine. This is quite a big missing compared to the old honda, which had a thottle by your thumb.

The petrol tank is quite small too. Still, good bargain for the money.
