This one is stronger than the usual strong cheddar you get on offer at the supermarkets.

i love this stuff its my fav pre packed cheese.....just got the seriously vintage 1 of these in 300g block for £2 from morrisons

I tried some of this when it was on offer for £1 @ Sainsbury's. It was nice and well worth the money, but I do prefer the Cathedral City.

Hmm I don't know with the vacumn packed bags it seems to last longer and stay fresher/more moist than a big lump you have to keep on re-wrapping in cling film and eventualy turns mouldy in a corner of the fridge !

It's a surface area thing. More surface area instantly for your tastebuds to appreciate...

Also a texture thing...

Not at all. The title is seriously misleading - the cheese is not at all strong or tasty. Nice enough but if really you want a strong cheddar there are lots to choose from. T

Thats subjective I thought it was, and also I compared it to the strong cheddar offers that are the usual fair in the supermarkets. Also you contradicted yourself. After saying it wasn't at all tasty you said it was "nice enough". Its not nice if you don't find it tasty.

Considering the name of the cheese concerned is 'Seriously Strong Cheddar' how can the title of the post be misleading?

Whether its stong or not is purely a subjective thing from person to person because basically you either like this cheese and consider it to be stronger than your average cheese or you dont. I do and it tastes strong and nice enough to me especially as toasted cheese.

cheese snobbery:)

I guess it comes down to personal preference, but for the same pound coin you could get 300g of Pilgrims Choice Mature Cheddar from Costcutter and grate it yourself.

What? Even if you grate it yourself? Does it absorb wheat gluten from from the atmosphere? Kidding of course, i did not know that!

Sorry - yes the cheese is nice enough but it is certainly not a strong cheddar. It is a reasonable mild cheddar, good for sandwiches but little else. I like cheese whether it is strong or not - I like Wensleydale, Cheshire, Lancashire and other mild regional cheeses but I prefer strong cheddar.

As I have said, this is certainly not a strong cheddar. The title of the cheese is misleading - not your heading, of course. Seriously strong = seriously misleading. I'm not certain how they get away with such a mis-description. Try some really good strong cheddar like Montgomery, Cornish Quartz or Canadian; even supermarket favourites like Pilgrim's Choice, Tickler and Davidstow are far stronger cheddars compared to this one.

Sounds like nonsense to me. Does anyone have a reference to this?

The Seriously Strong Grated Cheese has potato starch added as an anti-caking agent, so there is in fact no wheat gluten. This is the case with most grated cheeses produced in this country,
