About: As vast alien mining cities suck the power and minerals from every major metropolis on Earth simultaneously, time is of the essence as millions of civilians are expiring by the second.

Using your stealth parachute and the now infamous "Zooming" head-mounted sniper weapon, your task is to slip in undetected from the sky, seek out and remove the alien leader by any means. Fully reactive “smart enemies” think, listen and communicate in a calculated assault on your life. Think fast and act faster against the most sophisticated artificial enemy intelligence of its time.

The main objective of the game is to basically shoot everything that moves and everything means every alien you will come across. The one and only way to stop the alien invasion is to kill'em all by any means necessary, such as the smallest nuclear bomb, surfboard-like jet or bomber plane. Your goal is simple - repulse the alien invasion and save the Earth... almost single handedly.

Mission: Deliver Kindness

A groundbreaking game in it's day, now 20 years old as it came out in 1997! I was led to believe MDK meant Murder, Death, Kill! however >

"Meaning of "MDK"[edit]While the precise meaning of the title's three-letter acronym is never revealed during the game, the gaming press and fans adopted Murder, Death, Kill,[47] which was coined as a neologism in the 1993 film Demolition Man. Another possibility is documented in the game manual, where Kurt's mission is named "Mission: Deliver Kindness".[17] It could also stand for the first initials of the game's characters; Max, Dr. Hawkins, and Kurt.[23] In the README for the PC version of the game, it is stated "It stands for whatever we say it stands for on any given day; i.e., today it stands for Mother's Day Kisses."[48] In the European PC release, the background images during installation present many possible meanings for the letters; one of which is "Murder, Death, Kill". In the Japanese release, on the back cover it says in bold yellow letters: "My Dear Knight". During the installation of MDK2, various meanings are shown, again including "Murder, Death, Kill". The original meaning of "MDK" from the company's initial promo video was in fact "Murder Death Kill".[49] In a 2009 interview with NowGamer, David Perry revealed that because the North American publisher PIE was supposed to make toys based on the game, they did not like the title, so the words were removed and simply replaced with "MDK" Source: Wikipedia

I loved that game on the original Playstation (I think it was the original Playstation - I can’t recall as I’ve been gaming for so many years my memory is fried )

Thanks for the heads up, have some heat! I remember MDK II being a brilliant game at the time. But I never did play the original, now I will. Cheers...

AFAIK it did!

Throwback!

A great game in the day, but unfortunately rose tinted glasses are fragile af. Unsure why the license holder never went for third game though, the basic gameplay was sound. Fingers crossed...

From the reviews on GOG

Official MDK response by nickabuto
Hi this is Nick Bruty, creator of the original MDK. Thanks for all the nice reviews. Can't believe its been so long since it was released. To answer a few questions. Yes the name did stand for Murder Death Kill. It was a temp name that stuck although I didn't like the actual meaning so we came up with a bunch of other names to cover it up. The game was shorter than I wanted it to be. I had 8 levels planned but because we were being so diverse in each level we just didn't have the time so cut it to 6. There was no work done on the missing 2 levels. I do wish we had released with a save game. I don't think the game is overly hard as much as abstract in places. If anyone has questions I'll be happy to answers them on my site.

Yes me 2

I remember reading an interview with Dave Perry and he said the original title was murder death kill, I think people just love to play up to a mystery. (It wasn’t really)

'World's most interesting bomb' up there with the super sheep and banana bomb for awesome weaponry

Heat for nostalgia. Played this summer of 97. That's 20 years ago!

I bought cheap, Cyrix 166 MMX if my memory serves me well.

Mavellous Deal: Kudos

I never had the slightest clue what I was doing in that game, but I had glorious fun doing it anyhow.
