How much cheap fruit and veg can I store on this? Being a 2.5" drive I figure one pineapple is the max.

you could probably stack a few tins of pineapple chunks on it

Mmm...if it's a normal SATA connector present for the hard disk (and not like the WD Passport Hard Disks) then this would be a good deal for a cheap upgrade for a laptop or netbook or nettop...heat from me.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Isn't it a good deal anyway for what it is? Despite (or maybe because of) the surreal produce comments? Did I miss something fruity?.

Will it connect to my ORANGE? :-)

Any ideas on quality of disk inside?

Dabs are selling similar spec drived for over £70

Good deal :-D

Ebuyer has a Samsung for £60
£5 extra but its Samsung, in different colours and still a 3yr warranty

ebuyer.com/pro…397

Samsung won't make any difference - the disk inside isn't made by Medion.

What will make a difference is if it uses a micro USB connector - these are considered too flimsy and liable to disconnect.

Anyone opened one up yet to see which drives inside?
If its a seagate, WD or samsung drive i'll give it a bash.

Otherwise i'll be going for a NAS.

Difference is it'l get delivered to you instead of waiting outside ALDI to get something they'l likely have 3 of in each shop.
A morning standing in the freezing winter cold, followed by the mad rush trying to grab their "deal".
Or sit in the house with a cuppa and get it dropped off for ya?

And yea i know the disk isnt made by Medion, but it'l either be custom for them or rebadged from someone else.
If its custom dont touch it, if its rebadged wait for the reviews by which time there wont be any stock.

What's a NAS?

I've found the Iomega Prestige 500Gb for about £56. Anyone know what drive is in this and which is better our of Seagate, WD, Samsung and the IOMEGA?

Also, how can we check the micro USB connector thingy-me-bob?

i noticed the instore poster said it was a 1Tb drive - online and in book it says 500gb.

good price

Nas is a HDD you plug into your router and can access it across the network.
I plan to get one with an FTP server so i can acess it across the web?

Iomega probably has a different brand drive inside. Samsung are normally said to be the best of the business atm. I like seagates myself never had a WD but might try one this time round.

NAS is any storage connected to a network. Network Attached Storage. See?

If you have some spare computer parts around your house then build your own... www.freenas.org

I have had their 250gb one for some time now, with constant used in several PC's and it has never missed a beat!

Micro USB standard is rated at 10,000 connection/disconnections. This is an industry standard connector used internationally, apart from of course....Apple..:whistling:

Seems a great buy for the money, heat added.

Anyone bought one yet ?

What brand drive is inside ?

Looking for a replacement for my 80GB PS3, was planning on getting one similar to this and swapping the drives, would prefer a Seagate though....

Why won't samsung make any difference? Samsung actually manufacture hard disk drives, so the likelyhood is its a samsung disk inside the samsung drive. The medion may have a maxtor or some other turd...

Does anyone know if you can hook this up to your ps3 to play avi's?

Yup, but you will probably have to reformat the drive in FAT32 format.

If you have a windows PC you will need to download a formating tool such as
ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/gui…htm

What 2.5 drive is in this and will it fit a PS3 ?

Average price.

I paid £49.97 2 weeks ago for a 500gb Seagate portable drive from Tesco, and would rather have that than the medion for a fiver more

It unfair to compare the Tesco one with this as it was an obvious misprice which Tesco soon corrected to £69.97 (direct.tesco.com/q/R…spx)

Sub £55 for a portable 2.5" 500GB drive is currently good price and by no means average.

Irrelevant. It's considered a bad idea on portable hard drives, because it falls out far too easily. ]Read this review and learn.

Were they on display or did you have to ask for one?

I need a couple for various projects and I'm off work tomorrow so would be ideal to nip in!

The 3 year guarantee makes the price very attractive :whistling:
