So I missed out on the Lenovo g700 and have been looking for something of similar spec for around the 450-500 mark. Having seen the post for the previous Medion laptop thought I would chuck his up and see what thoughts are. One thing i really liked is that its 17.3" and has full 1080p. Im not looking for hard and tough games i just want something that is in some respects future proof and not going to struggle with day to day use. also BLU-RAY reader which is a huge bonus

One exclamation mark was not enough, two exclamation marks are not enough, three exclamation marks is when all hell breaks loose. Rising from the Tundra like a IT Goblin troll of inflamed cursing is Medion Akoya. Bruce Lee couldn't stop it, Chuck Norris had a go, but he had to fill his car with petrol, Godzilla couldn't stop it, we're at the mercy of optical frenzied Blu Ray infidelity in FULL 1080P! Ladies and gentlemen you're witnessing the apocalypse right here, right now. This is Medion Akoya and nothing, no nothing can stop its high resolution pixelated fashionista infecting all of us. There is no resisting, you will all relent to Medion Akoya, have mercy on us oh Lord of integrated graphics. Medion Akoya has risen and he's looking for breakfast! and a quick nap in a Trust House Forte. Been Warned!

I know two people who had medions die on them after a few weeks

Just tell the the formula for God's sake! maybe we can stop this before it goes too far, I'm never one to favour an apocalypse. Maybe just maybe the common cold will stop this marauder in its wake. Medion Akoya starring in all good apocalypses right now, those dedicated graphics are on their way to you and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

I've had my medion akoya for over a year now. The hardware inside the laptop is fantastic, much better performance than the higher-priced del xps i had to replace due to faulty hardware.
Speakers are standard laptop-fare ie pretty crappy, fine for low volumes but not ideal for gaming, music or movies especially at high volumes. I strongly suggest picking up a good set of headphones.

Screen is average, nice response but viewing angles, contrast and colour vibrancy could be better.

Keyboard good with a nice feel to the keys but the down arrow broke on mine within a week of using it.

The touchpad is generally ok, has a nice texture which lets your fingers slide across it without sticking. However, the left mouse button on the touchpad has all but died on my akoya now, clicking and dragging is no longer practical, this is an annoyance but I can still have full functionality as the touchpad registers taps as click like most laptops.

The glossy finish on the back of the laptop is a fingerprint magnet and scratches easily. This doesn't really bother me though.

My new laptop has so much better sound than my Dell 3700 through my NAD C370 nice bass which the other one never had even after changing settings.
Fingerprints really show on it to but don't bother me.

Decent spec for the price. GPU will run most current games in medium settings and a decent amount on high.

Nice. Not heard anything bad about Medions. Casing may look a little cheap, but looks like some good specs inside.

They're good at apocalypses though, I bet you can't do that.

Medion seems to have the jump on pre-Christmas discounts. I'm hoping they sell enough for it to have a domino effect with others following suit.

In the meantime, this is a lot of laptop in terms of specs (not necessarily build) for the money. Thanks OP.

This came from a previous thread, naughty naughty.... but anyone its seems good value, except unsure about the brand... actually I think they used to sell these in Aldi as well as pcworld. The best thing about this in my opinion is the screen resolution:3

Not sure about the Medion laptops but I am in my second desktop. They sound great and look great but I have had nothing but problems with them. My first one packed in after the years warranty ran out. They told me if I had bought it from Aldi then I would have a 3 year warranty and they would look at it. Bought my 2nd one at Aldi and now I am at the point where I don't shut it down as it has a habit of not starting up again and I have to wipe it before it can be used.

I have had my high spec Medion for two years now and I would buy one again, you get killer hardware specs in cheap (but not silly cheap) casing.

    Don't believe the hate.

I've had 3 Merion laptops, father in law still has the first from 8 years ago & it's still going strong. bought from aldi with 3 year warranty, can't go wrong

    No chance at native resolution.

Is this the start of the Xmas price drop ??

Just spoke to my other half - her Medion bought 5 years ago is still going strong - the PCMCIA slot cover did fall apart and my advice to duct tape it back on was (IMO foolishly) ignored. But, apart from that, has fared better than my Dell XPS gaming laptop - two failed PSUs and 3 graphics card failures - and I was totally surprised of the keyboard quality.
As soon as my student son rises - after 2pm probably - I'm going to advice him to get this.
    Cheers hot!

I have a Medion laptop bought in March 2003 from toys'r'us for £999. At the time a similar spec from elsewhere was at least double that.

Only issue I've ever had, besides it obviously being slow compared to today's offerings, was that the battery eventually ran down quickly but technology is lightyears ahead now.

I'd buy another Medion without hesitation.
