So I missed out on the Lenovo g700 and have been looking for something of similar spec for around the 450-500 mark. Having seen the post for the previous Medion laptop thought I would chuck his up and see what thoughts are. One thing i really liked is that its 17.3" and has full 1080p. Im not looking for hard and tough games i just want something that is in some respects future proof and not going to struggle with day to day use. also BLU-RAY reader which is a huge bonus

Best phone ever made!?!
Just tell the the formula for God's sake! maybe we can stop this before it goes too far, I'm never one to favour an apocalypse. Maybe just maybe the common cold will stop this marauder in its wake. Medion Akoya starring in all good apocalypses right now, those dedicated graphics are on their way to you and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
Speakers are standard laptop-fare ie pretty crappy, fine for low volumes but not ideal for gaming, music or movies especially at high volumes. I strongly suggest picking up a good set of headphones.
Screen is average, nice response but viewing angles, contrast and colour vibrancy could be better.
Keyboard good with a nice feel to the keys but the down arrow broke on mine within a week of using it.
The touchpad is generally ok, has a nice texture which lets your fingers slide across it without sticking. However, the left mouse button on the touchpad has all but died on my akoya now, clicking and dragging is no longer practical, this is an annoyance but I can still have full functionality as the touchpad registers taps as click like most laptops.
The glossy finish on the back of the laptop is a fingerprint magnet and scratches easily. This doesn't really bother me though.
I know two people who have really died and come back to life in a few weeks ... true story ... it's on the internetz it must be true - a friend of a friend told me!
I know two who have had a medion for 3 years - one of them is me, so who is right? There's only one way to find out...
that an outlet machine?
as 17r se has been discontinued for over a week now i think
Laptop speakers - too quiet for movies... too loud for pr0n...

My new laptop has so much better sound than my Dell 3700 through my NAD C370 nice bass which the other one never had even after changing settings.
Fingerprints really show on it to but don't bother me.

Shame, I was looking for 2160P!!!
I know two people who had medions die on them after a few weeks
They're good at apocalypses though, I bet you can't do that.
In the meantime, this is a lot of laptop in terms of specs (not necessarily build) for the money. Thanks OP.
what?
Don't believe the hate.
No chance at native resolution.
Dropping down should be fine tough.

As soon as my student son rises - after 2pm probably - I'm going to advice him to get this.
Cheers hot!
Only issue I've ever had, besides it obviously being slow compared to today's offerings, was that the battery eventually ran down quickly but technology is lightyears ahead now.
I'd buy another Medion without hesitation.
