Software included:

Corel, Office X3 and word perfect.

Thanks for the votes (hot and cold). Be good to discuss though.

Also, I appreciate that this isn't a hot deal as rrp but still £30 cheaper than the wind and has Draft N wireless.

With only a 3-cell battery this netbook will only get about 1 and a half hours- kind of defeats it's purpose. Really looking for a similar, small form factor netbook but needs decent battery life- something like 4-5 hours.

Looks Cool...

...just one question though - does PCW's Advent 4211 (also a MSI Wind clone) not have draft-N wireless?

Thanks for your replies in advance!

Ooh, draft n, that makes it a little bit more special! Not a bad price, but Im happy with the Advent for £250 odd

Typing on the Advent now. Alas no, it does not. :-(

Doesn't come with a case either. Also, Sainsburys have a better return policy. I've returned electrical goods to them before and got a refund after 6 months use.

Its swings and roundabouts,The medion has draft n but no bluetooth and the advent has bluetooth but 802.11g,A big bonus is if you know a Sainsburys staff member they are supposed to be getting 15% discount sometime this week which brings the price down quite a chunk,

no hsdpa:whistling:

Confirm lousy battery life but if U wait a few weeks there will be the 6-cell version available. Seems this model will appear in various rebadges but they're all much the same. The unit I played with at PC World seemed fine surfing but the screen quality of typed letters 14point in Wordpad was terrible. I would not buy it for that reason alone. Others reporting huge returns at PCWorld for myriad of reasons- suddenly switching off with 15 mins battery time left, poor display etc. If U must get one, choose an outfit who will readily take back rejects!

Have you looked into the EEEPC 901 then? Battery last 4 - 5 easily on them!

The screen on the Advent is fantastic and a Bios update fixes the few bugs this machine has, Most returns are because people hold the power button in when turning on,which causes the machine to turn on then turn straight off, this is fixed with the bios update,I think this is the best value gadget i have ever bought and when the larger battery is available will be perfect.

Battery on my advent lasts just over 2 hours with wifi etc on. I also have office 2007 installed and it all works fine, can easily see what your writing etc. Screen is awesome even on half brightness. Official 6 cell battery's will be released end of august/beginning of september so I shall pick one up then ~ 4.5 hours battery life (for around £50 for an official one, cheaper otherwise), plus a spare 3 cell for another 2 hours battery and it will still be cheaper then the official xp wind!

Tonyg, Can you link me to the bios update please?

edit:found it now thanks

have the advent its awesome. great screen quality, have done the bios update and love this machine. Its faster than my £1000 vista laptop! Get 2+ hours on the battery which is reasonable but like others will be getting the spare battery for extra life but prob a third party 1000mah which will hopefully give 6+ hrs.

Me too. Just need to get my case from CPW.
They were going to send the pink one so changed that!

Like I said, it's a good deal for those who can't find the advent and would want the wireless N, case and software. Better still if you get staff discount.

It has a higher speed connections and a transmission system that mitigates problems caused by multipath (reflected) radio signals.

However, if you usually use the old 54Mb/s wireless G to connect to your internet and have a reliable connection then draft-n will give very little benefit. If your internet connection is 10Mb/s then 54 to your wireless link is more than enough. If you have a single computer at home connecting to wireless to access the internet over ADSL then N is not that useful over G.

However, if you are working on your home network to other PCs, or working on an office network then the potential 248Mb/s of N will make the movement of large amounts of data much faster and allow more simultaneous fast connections.

Also, if N becomes available at hotspots with high speed internet connections then N might be useful.

With external optical drives or instaling to USB sticks.

Just google it and you'll find loads of forums and guides. :-D

How are these at rendering Hi Def (720 line) MPEGs and Divx? My P3 with intel 935M is unable to sync video with audio on these newer larger files.

My review here, plus handy link to the official Advent download in the comments;

Its completely useless with a battery life of less than 2 hours. I have a dual core 15" dell laptop running vista that cost £250 new and I get 4 and a half to 5 hours out of it easily in lower power mode.

Seriously, when are you ever more than an hour away from a socket? These are great machines for slinging in your handbag, but it's unlikely to be anywhere that you can't use the power cord.

Completely agree. I charge at home. I go out. Do some web surfing.
I charge at work (if needed), then ready to go again.

Also charge in pubs, starbucks, etc. Never a problem.

They have them in Shrewsbury Sainsburys for the same price, same spec.

University Campus's!!! plugs that you can use are like gold dust (at least they are in Bath) and when home is a 40 min bus ride and you have lectures all day, then only 2 hours of battery for note taking and any work you want to get done in any breaks is pretty useless.

3 cell battery?

looks nice - voted hot

why call these a clone when they are actually made by MSI? Must be a better thing to call them?

i went and brought myself an advent model, someone told me that they had the same thing in sainsburys and i diddnt listen to them. 'n' wireless would have come in handy aswell because im going to upgrade my wireless network to it, i have also got to find a case.

added to all that i can get staff discount which takes it down to the advent's price:x

jeez wish id hav waited, do you think that pc world will let me take it back?:?

Take it back saying it's faulty. Read through the advent owners thread for some excuses.

Generally though, I haven't had too many problems with mine.

How did I manage without it?

Just went to Sainsbury's (Archer Road Sheffield)
They had the DVD boxes on the shelves.

Tried to buy one, and was told. Not in stock till August 15.

I was told by staff at the St Claires (Hampton) Sainsbury's, that they had two showing on their system on Sunday (when I rang).

It could be that the first batch had sold out?

I would rather have bluetooth than wireless N.

actually it has been playing about today, the screen keeps going blank and i have to reboot it, if it keeps doing it i will probably take it back anyway

50%+ of my life. If I'm going to buy a portable machine I want it to be portable. 2hrs is far too short.
