Medion have some amazing specs on their ultrabooks at great prices but I'm a bit put off by the brand. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I've also read online that any warranty returns have to be sent to Sydney at your own expense.

Although probably won't get a new laptop any time soon, every time I've looked the Medions seem the best price/spec ratio time after time.

They are based in Swindon in the UK.

Had to return 2 batteries in the warranty period. No costs involved and the package goes to Germany. About a 2 week turnaround.

I have very similar spec to this. Only complaints are the mediocre screen and the fact that the battery seems to slowly drain even when turned off.
Would I buy again. Probably not
(To be fair this does have a been screen resolution than the one I got)

voted hot!

i posted up a medion similar spec to this that i am typing on now. built quality isnt the best but its not rubbish. specs are astonishing for the money on most laptops. i got i5 8gb ram 640m 2gb with 1080p bluray 750gb but mines 17inch paid bout 479 with quidco and codes took it to about 450.

speakers are LOUD very loud. packed with features

really really pleased. if it counts for anything i had little knowledge of medion other than seeing them in ALDI but a little research came up with them being german built and having links with lenovo.

every now and then they come up with a corker. this is good but i have seen better value for money in the past from medion. but at present specs are pretty decent.

Link to my deal but it is expired

Hi, this has a 1080p screen, I thought that was good, not mediocre?

A good screen is not all about high resolution
I don't like mine as even though matte its seems reflective and has terrible viewing angles
The colour reproduction is also not great

I have a cheap non-branded netbook with a better screen
Maybe it would have been better if I could have seen the screen before I bought it. I didn't even consider this at the time

i think he means in terms of actual picture quality (brightness, contrast etc.)

Screen resolution is far down the list of what makes a screen "good", however in the case of laptops most displays around the 720p resolution are generally poor and the 1080p panels are normally good albeit they do tend to be TN panels which are still a step down from those £100 LG IPS monitors you see (which is a shame as they're very good budget monitors, be nice if they filtered down to mainstream laptops!).

Hopefully someone with this specific model can help you regarding the quality of this screen.

Seems an okay price, last time I looked at buying a laptop pricing was much better though as I got a Dell 7520 (15R SE) i7 which may well be the same specs as this one but with a 8770 or 7770 cant remember now :P, been a great laptop and that was £400 at the time , bargain.

Review (German but can be read via Google translate): notebookcheck.com/Tes…tml

From the review:
"In terms of viewing angle stability , the Akoya seems probably the weakest point to show the display: colors are distorted almost in all directions, is the fact that details are rather blurred. For a film with several people at the display of the Akoyas is just as inappropriate as for photographers and / or designer, as an sRGB coverage for a correct color representation is not present."

i got one of them too, using it right now - runs very well boots up in about 10 seconds, had no issues with it and very good specs for the price, even for playing games (not top of the range ones, mind.. though i haven't tried) very quiet and doesn't get hot, about 3 hours battery life without the charger plugged in at 93% battery (though i'm not sure about if it'll actually last that!)

happy with medion so far this being my first experience with them

This must be the rubbish screen I have been going on about, as the resolution is the same 1366*768
As mentioned earlier at least this screen in the deal is potentially better

i took mine to work and stuck it on balanced power settings with brightness down(not all the way down) and on full charge said 4hrs 17 mins. must say i had a good few hours out of it doing some desktop publishing and photo shopping. i guess using the gfx card for games will really whack into the battery but i was pleasantly surprised with battery life. i expected maybe tops 2 hours.

It's a gamble how much 'better' the 1080p screen is. The review on the screen of their higher end Erazer laptops with 1080p screens were not very promising. kitguru.net/lap…23/

From the review:
"The 15.6″ screen didn’t impress me… while only slightly reflective it has a poor contrast level, lacks overall brightness and the unbalanced colour saturation makes it difficult to use as a photo editing machine. It may have a high 1080p (1920×1080) resolution, but I wouldn’t want to use it for anything remotely serious."

That review is two years old and for a different model.

Finally, a company that makes sense! Why would you want glare on your screen... masochism?

Paid same price for same spec DELL laptop, a year ago!

My thoughts on Medion, well I'm typing this on my Medion, I bought back in 2011. Mine was the equivalent spec from back in the day and is still good enough to run games such as Grid 2 at 1920*1080, on medium settings at a playable FPS.

One of the best laptops, I've had. Battery life isn't brilliant when using the Nvidia graphics I get about 90 mins max, when on the integrated I get 4 hours out of it.

The worse part is the shiny black, which shows all finger prints.

saying that i have no problems the other day on here jynxed me, today when i turn on the laptop the touchpad stops working entirely after a minute or so, using a wireless mouse at the moment

edit: working again for now.. odd!

This may be a great spec but my daughter has one and the case is very flimsy. It doesn't look like it will last long with my teenage daughter so it may but it may last longer with an adult.

Gave in and ordered a Medion laptop:

It's a slightly diiferent specced one (17 inch screen + intel i5) but I got it for almost £200 less (£10 off from the newsletter + topcashback).

I would keep an eye on Medion through and after Christmas... they are hit and miss on sales, but they won't run out of stock on most for ages. I would hold off :-)

Might treat myself to this after Xmas...
