Possibly because it Medion and a tad expensive for what it is!

...and the award for HUKD 'most misjudged openeing sentence to a deal description 2013' goes to............. X)

If you do go for it use code 15XMAS13 for an extra £15 off. I would wait until after xmas, I'm sure there will be more price drops in the boxing day sales.

Not a bad lappy, price is a bit steep imo, you can get touchscreen win 8 for less & gaming laps for about the Same money, with better quality components.as opposed to medions value parts. Sorry OP, its a cold one from me

Thanks folks :o) Happy Chrstmas to you and yours!! I've been completely overwhelmed by the range of laptops out there so she'll be getting a hug for Christmas at this rate!!

Don't take it to heart, this is normal on HUKD.
I can't immediately find anything with a better spec for a lower price.
Nearest I found was an Acer with less RAM, and smaller HDD.

Medion is owned by Lenovo, and has been for a couple of years, so expect good quality.

I bought an Akoya on-line after reading many good reviews. Like yours, great spec for the money. So why am I'm typing this on my ancient Dell...

I'll be specific. The keys are cheap, plasticky and very, very noisy when typing. When you pick the unit up it creaks due to the thin plastic of the chassis. But the worst thing is the touch pad which regularly freezes and you have to wait an age for it to respond. Give the last one a Google and you'll see I'm not the only one suffering. Oh, and somehow they've made the monitor seem too small thanks to the thick frame surrounding it. Some decent components but cheaply put together.

TBH Not the best purchase I've made and I would never buy another one.

Hope this helps...

Not really much help as I am not able to search for a better price. However, you should be able to get a very useable 17.3" laptop for under £400 if you shop around. My Dell Inspiron 17.3" cost £299 direct from Dell a wee while back. If it is only for web surfing, e-mail, word processing, etc. then you do not need to spend loads of money as any basic laptop will do all of this with ease.

All most the same as mine but I got for under £500 a few months back.
It has a nice screen and the laptop seems very quite to unlike my other Dell 3700 which is really noisy.
Had to format windows 8 to update to 8.1 though as the first install was bad but was far better after.

This same laptop was exactly £100 less about 4-5 months ago

i do worry about the plasticky side of things tho

I've been eyeing this one as well; strange that people here are mentioning it's a lot of money for its components. I compared this one to several Asus and Acer models and those are all either a lot more expensive or have much worse components (f.e. only half the RAM, no GPU, only half the HDD storage space).
