I'm almost certain it will be the GPU with the lower bandwidth. The initial model was just to earn favourable reviews and status before the switch and bait, I don't recall seeing it since.

similar to Kingston and their SSD

Its a good price for a home use and the most basic of games. What I dont like is such a low resolution 15" screen but if you can live with that it seems good. Swop the HDD for a SSD or SSHD and it would be given quite a boost in responsiveness and load times.

Lol, well spotted. Have you put an SSD in that little e1231t of yours yet? So pleased you posted that - it's my favourite bargain this year!

After years of gaming on 15" laptops with 1366 x 768 screens, I treated myself to a new laptop with a full HD 1080p screen (it's the Asus N551jk 15" that was posted on HUKD about three months back). Now while I like the machine, the transition from 720p to 1080p has been a bit underwhelming. I replayed Portal recently and to be honest, playing in 1080p makes not a lot of difference (deploying sad face in three, two, one...). Also if you do go up in resolution, you need a much more powerful (and costly) graphics card to drive all those extra pixels. My Asus with its Nvidia 850m cost £563 and I reckon that was a bargain! For the money this Medion is an excellent buy. The Nvidia 740m isn't bang up to date but it will still get you through a lot of fun to play games.

any good for just basic web surfing and watching films

One thing... isn't a 'hybrid drive' with 3MB of cache just an ordinary HDD?

quite a ridiculous price considering it has the 740m card, capable of playing Fifa 15 etc

but no SSD is a dealbreaker

it's £319 now

I was similar but after using a 1080p for a few months especially on Excel and Word whenever I pick up a lower res laptop I cant get off it quick enough. For gaming I agree it makes little difference at this size but this is no gaming laptop

I bought this from Amazon a few weeks back...

The screen is great and the touchscreen element is very quick. Keyboard is responsive and track pad is good, although I prefer the two buttons to be seperate.

Graphics card is good (1gb) plays older games well (Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc.). Processor is better than expected as when researching, before purchase, it took a lot of flak, regarding its game playing credentials.

It's fairly light yet seems solidly built. For this price I was very impressed.

I'm happy to answer any qs that people may have if they are considering buying one.

I won't pretend to understand it but it has an ssd partition I believe. Boots to windows in 20 secs. I'm not sure how impressive that is though.

Comes at 319 for me?

It sounds like it already has an SSHD - the drive is listed as a "Hybrid" which is usually one of them.

Think the hybrid ssd spec is a mistake. I don't think drives with 3mb cache have ever been made??? Although if it takes 20 seconds to boot to windows 8 maybe its true, (I consider that a long boot)

4 usb ports and dedicated graphics makes this a bargin to me!

They have updated the terms of the £10 voucher to transactions over £299.

Well unless the email is wrong!

Heat for the find, I guess for a touch screen you don't need 1080P resolution (certainly not with my fingers!) It would be difficult to find a similar spec'd machine for the money....

My laptop has 500GB HD and 16GB SSD. Performs fast, think its boots in less than 12 seconds.

If this has an SSD too, WOW what a price

I bought the 745m version of this laptop a couple of weeks back (there was literally a handful of them left) and that's got the flash drive too. Books up much faster than I was expecting it to. It was my son's first laptop and he loves it. There's not a lot it won't play on medium settings. I was also lucky enough to pick up a 10.1 inch laptop for myself (£99!) which also has an 8gb flash drive to get things going - really pleased with both purchases. I think Lenovo has been a really good influence on Medion's products.

Edit: build quality was much better than expected too.

I bought this from Amazon too when the deal was live last. I can't recommend this laptop enough. It can run Skyrim on high 45fps, Crysis 2 with lower settings at 24 fps, Metal Gear Rising on low smooth.

Performance per price, I haven't found better!

My touch pad is a little temperamental, and the key board is a little spongy for my taste, but not enough for me to be a deal breaker. Also, a little heavy compared to my old one, but it was plastic whereas this metallic.

I think it has a 3MB cache, that has Intel software that writes common boot files copied there ... I think.

I found the extended spec sheet by googling 'MEDION AKOYA S6611T Laptop (MD98547) pdf'.

Feel free to ask me any questions too.

Hot from me!

It's coming up £319 for me?

The Pentium model is £269 Today's special though....

I see you can get a full hd version for not much more with a geforce 825m, whats the difference in performance between that and the 740m?

The deal starts at midnight... sigh

Really annoyed that I missed this for £269... Is it still worth buying at £309? I'm in the market for a laptop and never thought to consider Medion.

Dude, you haven't missed it! The deal doesn't start until midnight tonight!

Oh I am stupid... thank you

Okay...so before I saw this Medion S6611T laptop deal here today, I was seriously looking at;

Medion S6415T 15.6" Full HD IPS Touch Screen Laptop Dual Core 4GB RAM 1TB HDD

I'm a PC desktop user myself, so I'm not what I'd call a laptop expert...so could someone here who is, please give me a steer on which one I should go for now. They are about the same price (once this midnight deal for this here 6611T kicks in (see Heather I CAN READ!!...lol).

Thank you. This is what my thought also but needed another opinion. Think it is worth the wait!

Great spec for the price but i've read Medion laptops have overheating issues and their customer support is shocking, very tempted for £279.00 after midnight and probably worth the risk, seems the 740m is slightly faster than the 825m.

Yeah, my laptop can get warm whilst gaming, but that's not a abnormal I don't think. without my cooler, I think it got up to 61 degrees (I like my stats :P ). it's not that high really.

I did invest in a cooling stand from eBay. it was a 6 fan one for £8.69ish. lowered my temps to 53 degrees.

sturdy enough. suffered a little drop and it's still whirring happily away.
