Does anyone know if this is the best deal for a laptop at the mo?

Baring any of the seemingly non existant tesco laptop deals, this is a pretty good buy for the price, for this sort of money you can usualy find single core celerons with smaller hard drives, have heard some semi bad things about medions laptop build quality though, and 90 day warranty isn't the best.

Is that legal? Surely the minimum is 6 months under the sale of goods act?

i.e. any problems occurring within 6 months they have to fix unless they can prove it wasn't faulty at the time of purchase.

Good point but it's not illegal just means after 3 months you would have to argue your case certainly as you point out within 6 months they have to prove the fault wasn't there when you bought it, not easy to do.
Warrenties often don't mean anything, as has been said many time on here the law gives better protection and it could easily be argued that this should be expected to last at least 2-3 yrs under the SOGA etc.
