I know this is not the current series of graphics cards, but thought it looked decent value as a desktop replacement.

Not a bad deal but just never got the point of a gaming "Laptop". A rig (Dekstop) will always be faster, cheaper and more flexible, so guess they're limited to people who travel and have a need to game :-)

The 980 is still a good card
Sufficient memory, chip is ok but nothing special, SSD is a bit small
I'd like to see it under £1000 but it's a good machine

The portability and flexibility are big plus points for me.

I've always built my own desktops, but the new 10xx nvidia cards that match desktop performance are swaying me towards a laptop for the first time.

For those wondering, a 980m is about on par with a desktop 1050 ti.

Not bad but, if you can get a laptop with a 1060m, it would absolutley destroy the 980m.

The 1060 is similar in performance to the Desktop GTX980.

If you want a (much) faster gfx card rather than a faster process or (at a a £80 premium) you can take a look at this:

The problem is it's a Medion.. usually very slow delivery as gets shipped from Germany.. poor customer service if anything goes wrong.. sent back to Germany for repairs via the uk returns dept..

Thanks for the information just confused regarding the processor I thought Medion with 3.5GHz i7 would be more powerful than the Intel Core i5-6300HQ Quad Core (2.3GHz, 6MB Cache, Intel Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz)

This was posted up last week. Have a play with different options (I'd always drop the Windows install and buy elsewhere)

Delivery is either 24 or 48 hours from the UK according to their website.

It's probably a niche market at this stage.
I am interested in one due to working away from home often.

EDIT: to clarify, the gaming laptop would be purely for gaming, and not to replace my work laptop.

Good for those with families. For me it means I can play games and sit on the sofa rather than shut myself away or sit with my back to the room.

Good for you. When I used to have a laptop I was told I wasn't there I was somewhere else. so I thought I may as well build a PC and create a computer room, which I did. Surprisingly I have less complaints.

For work I like/need to have a laptop with a decent processor, ram and SSD. I don't need a decent graphics card, but it'd be nice to add that on top, if I could find the time to game :).

Though, still really want my next laptop to have the option of charging/running from USB-C.

I should have jumped when this was at £899!

I brought this and got it within 2 days of ordering , just if anyone is interested.
